Within the Polyamides family, referred to as "Nylons" there are different types. The most common are Nylon 6 (PA6), Nylon 6.6 (PA6.6), Nylon 11 (PA11) and Nylon 12 (PA12). The designation of these types of nylon is made according to the number of carbon atoms contained between the nitrogen atoms at an elemental level. For example Nylon 6 has six carbon atoms and Nylon 6.6 has two groups of six etc.

Engineering & Design Plastics offers both homopolymer (Delrin®) and copolymer grades of acetal.

Engineering & Design Plastics Ltd have stocked and distributed for 25+ years the ERTACETAL® brand of acetal currently manufactured by Quadrant EPP.

Increasingly, due to shortages of supply, we are supplying other brands of European manufactured acetals including Rochling Sustaplast's SUSTARIN® and Centoplast's CENTRODAL.
Acetal is readily available in Natural and black in round rod, tube, thin sheet and plate form. Coloured acetal is also obtainable but sizes and shapes are limited and it can be subject to minimum order quantities.

ERTALYTE^® (Natural and black)

ERTALYTE^® is unreinforced, semi-crystalline thermoplastic polyester based on polyethylene terephthalate (PET-P). The specific properties of ERTALYTE^® virgin crystalline PET make it especially suitable for the manufacture of mechanical precision parts which have to sustain high loads and/or are subject to wear.

ERTALYTE® TX (Light grey)

ERTALYTE^®TX is a polyethylene terephthalate compound incorporating a uniformly dispersed solid lubricant. Its specific formulation makes it a premium internally lubricated bearing-grade. Ertalyte TX not only has an outstanding wear resistance, but offers in comparison with ERTALYTE^® an even lower coefficient of friction as well as higher pressure-velocity capabilities.

NYLON 6 extruded Natural and Black

Extruded Nylon 6 is a good general purpose Nylon. If you are trying to decide between extruded grades of Nylon 6 and Nylon 66, Nylon 6 is generally better for impact applications and Nylon 66 is better for wear applications. Extruded Nylon 66 is generally considered easier to machine than extruded nylon 6.

Nylon 66 30% Glass filled (Black)

Compared with virgin PA 66, this 30% glass fibre reinforced and heat stabilized nylon grade offers increased strength, stiffness, creep resistance and dimensional stability whilst retaining an excellent wear resistance. It also allows higher maximum service temperatures.

NYLATRON^®GS(Dark grey)

The addition of MoS₂ renders NYLATRON^® GS somewhat stiffer, harder and dimensionally more stable than standard extruded Nylon 66, but results in some loss of impact strength. The nucleating effect of the molybdenum disulphide results in an improved crystalline structure enhancing bearing and wear properties.

NYLON 6 Cast Natural and Black

The properties of cast Nylon 6 are very similar to those of extruded Nylon 6.6 but due to the cast process are virtually stress free.

Cast Nylon 6 is manufactured in much larger diameters and sheet thickness than extruded Nylons.

ERTALON® 6XAU+ (Black)

ERTALON^® 6XAU+ is a heat stabilized cast nylon grade with a very dense and highly crystalline structure. Compared with conventional extruded or cast nylons, ERTALON^® 6XAU+ offers superior heat aging performance in air (much better resistance to thermal-oxidative degradation), allowing 15 - 30 °C higher continuously allowable service temperatures. ERTALON^® 6XAU+ is particularly recommended for bearings and other mechanical parts subject to wear which are operating in air for long periods of time at temperatures over 60 °C.

ERTALON® LFX (Green)

ERTALON® LFX is an internally lubricated cast nylon 6. It is self-lubricating in the real meaning of the word. ERTALON^® LFX, especially developed for unlubricated, highly loaded and slowly moving parts applications, yields a considerable enlargement of the application opportunities compared to standard cast nylons. It offers a reduced coefficient of friction (up to 50% lower), considerably increasing the pressure-velocity capabilities, and a vastly improved wear resistance (up to 10 times better).

NYLATRON^® GSM (Dark Grey)

NYLATRON^® GSM contains finely divided particles of molybdenum disulphide to enhance its bearing and wear behaviour without impairing the impact and fatigue resistance inherent to unmodified cast nylon grades. It is a very commonly used grade for gears, bearings, sprockets and sheaves.

NYLATRON^® NSM (Light grey)

NYLATRON^® NSM is a proprietary cast nylon 6 formulation containing solid lubricant additives which grant this material self-lubricity, excellent frictional behaviour, superior wear resistance and outstanding pressure-velocity capabilities (up to 5 times higher than conventional cast nylons). Being particularly suited for higher velocity, unlubricated moving parts applications; it is the perfect complement to the oil-filled grade ERTALON® LFX.

NYLATRON^® MC901 (Blue)

NYLATRON^® MC901 is a modified cast nylon 6 grade which has a distinctive blue colour, it exhibits higher toughness, flexibility and fatigue resistance than standard cast nylon 6. NYLATRON^® MC901 has proven to be an excellent material for gear wheels, racks and pinions.

KETRON^® PEEK HPV (Black)

KETRON^® PEEK HPV is a "bearing grade" and is manufactured by modifying standard PEEK with carbon fibres, PTFE and graphite, this grade especially suited for wear and friction applications.
