Asbestos Awareness Training
IATP Asbestos Awareness Training is for the prevention of asbestos disturbance; i.e. to take the necessary precautions before works commence and to stop work if there is doubt about any material found within the work area.
Asbestos awareness is a mandatory requirement for anyone who may potentially disturb asbestos during the course of their work and for anyone who supervises such people. Particularly workers who may disturb the fabric of the building such as tradesmen, installations, refurbishment and demolition works.
The training covers all parts required by the HSE and the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR 2012)
JB Asbestos Management Ltd, specialise in providing asbestos awareness training on a national level at your premises at a time and date to suit you, subject to availability, including weekends
Asbestos Removal Training
Non-licensed Asbestos Removal Training is for those who caryout minor work with asbestos containing materials. The training provides the framework for non-licensed asbestos works; it includes a hard copy of the HSE publication “Asbestos Essentials Task Manual” which includes details of approved guidance for job specific tasks. It would become your main reference point for carrying out non-licensed asbestos works.
The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 states that you must be competent to work on non-licensed asbestos; the training alone does not make you competent; competency comes from receiving the training and following the approved guidance every time.
The training includes asbestos awareness training (see above) and provides the fundamentals of non-licensed works. The asbestos removal training would based around your intended tasks/works.
Asbestos Management Training
Asbestos management training is for those responsible for premises where Regulation 4 “The Duty to Manage” applies. It takes a step-by-step approach to forming a suitable Asbestos Management Plan that complies with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
The training describes and shows how to use the guidance and tools that have been produced by the HSE to help you meet your responsibilities i.e. to manage asbestos effectively.
The Duty to Manage applies to all non-domestic properties within the UK built before 2000. A non-domestic property is anything from a church to a ship, a hospital, a prison, your local pub and shopping centre. Anywhere which has communal access.
Usually if you have a responsibility for the upkeep of your premises then you are the duty holder and have a duty of care for your asbestos risks in the same way that you have a duty of care for any other hazards at your premises i.e. electric, chemical and fire.
Asbestos Management Training is in 2 parts; the 1st is asbestos awareness training, a 4hr session to learn the risks from asbestos exposure, to be better able to recognise typical asbestos containing materials (ACM’s) and to know typical locations where you can find them.
The 2nd part on an afternoon session looks at the necessary steps to take to complete your plan and be managing your asbestos effectively. An Asbestos Management Plan is a “live” document that describes and records how you are managing asbestos containing materials over time.

Asbestos Management Survey
We provide a no obligation quotation service to clients and surveys are carried out by our professionally trained surveyors. All surveys are undertaken in accordance with HSG264 and comply with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012.
We offer independent, impartial asbestos surveys on a nationwide basis. Surveyors are fully insured and qualified to both BOHS P402 & P405 level.
Asbestos Management Surveys
The purpose of the survey is to locate, as far as reasonably practicable, the presence of any suspect asbestos containing materials (ACM’s) in the property.
An Asbestos Management Survey is the standard survey for an occupied property and the first step in asbestos management within a property. It is a non-destructive survey although destructive techniques can be employed in certain areas at the request of the client.
All suspect ACM’s are sampled if safe to do so and sent for analysis. If sample taking is not appropriate then the material may be presumed to contain asbestos until such time as it is appropriate to sample.
Proven and presumed ACM’s would be subject to a risk assessment and recommendations on the management or removal made.
Refurb & Demolition Survey
The purpose of the Refurbishment and Demolition Survey is to locate and quantify all suspect ACM’s prior to refurbishment or demolition. It is a fully intrusive, destructive survey of an unoccupied property or area. Usually no risk assessments are carried out as all ACM’s will be removed to allow the refurbishment or demolition to take place. The report can be used by a removal company to quote for the asbestos removal works.
With a Refurbishment and demolition Survey, although different types of survey can be specified and used depending on the requirements of the client, it is important that the client and surveyor have a common understanding of what is expected and how the findings will be used.
Key Asbestos Regulations
The Control of Asbestos Regulations are there to help prevent contractors and maintenance staff from working on asbestos containing materials (ACM’s) without knowing.
Regulation 4 “The Duty to Manage”
Regulation 5 “Identification of the presence of Asbestos”
Regulation 10 “Information, instruction and training”
