Compression Load Cell

Compression load cell are available from 1Kg to 1000Te.

Load Cell Manufacturer

Procter & Chester (Measurements) Ltd (PCM) was established in 1983 to specialise in design and manufacture of a wide variety of load cells including, compression load cell, tension load cells, bending load cells, double shear beam load cells, load pins and load shackle pins, etc.

PCM also supply a custom load cell service. This allows the customer to have a design that suits their specific application.

To compliment our load cell range, we offer a vast selection of instrumentation and amplifiers which are usually readily available.

Standard Load Cells & Instrumentation

Standard Load Cells & Instrumentation

PCM has a huge selection of load cells available. Capacities range for 400grm to 1000Te in different designs. Some load cell designs you will recognise as standard common units, but there are also some unique load cells that have unusual features, dimensions or instrumentation incorporated within them. Like the load cell range, we have a large selection of indicators and amplifiers.

Bespoke Load Cell

We pride ourselves on sometimes achieving the impossible. With our vast experience in custom load cell designs and strain gauge applications, we rarely fail to deliver. However, sometimes you can push physics too far! If you require a single load cell, or multiple quantities, it is not a problem. PCM will deliver quickly and economically.

Load Pins & Shackle Load Pins

Load Pins & Shackle Load Pins

Load pins and shackle pins are commonly used in lifting or crane applications. All load pins are produced to order and therefore the customer can easy add features to suit the application. All projects are issued with an outline drawing that will require customer approval prior to manufacture. This ensures you know what you are getting and that it fits!

Load Cell Repair Service

In most cases, PCM can repair a damaged load cell. However, if the load cell element has yielded/become bent, it is beyond repair.

Load Cell Hire Service

If the application requires the use of load cells for a short period of time, hire it instead. Our service is efficient and we will calibrate the indicator to the units and resolution that you require.

Load Cell Calibration

Load Cells and instrumentation should be checked and re-calibrated on a regular basis. The frequency of calibration is dependent on the customer’s own quality system. The most frequent request is once every 12 months. We offer is an efficient and economic service. If you pre-book, the team can normally turn the job round within 24-48 hours.

Our test rigs and are annually calibrated by an independent UKAS traceable calibration house. PCM's load cell calibration laboratory offers a traceable service and therefore we are not UKAS accredited. With a high number of different modes and variations in set ups, it would make our service uncompetitive. However, our calibration routines and set ups are documented within our ISO 9001:2008 procedures.

We can calibrated other manufacturers load cells/instrumentation and produce calibration fittings to suit.

Calibration certificates are supplied as a reference for your quality system.

Strain Gauge Installation

PCM have been strain gauging free issue items, R&D items, motorsport components, buildings, bridges, boats, etc, since we were established in 1983. We are completely independent and use only most suited consumables for a project. Our experience ranges from cryogenic (-269 DegC) to high temperature (+800DegC), static to fatigue, specialist metals to glass, composite and plastics. Each installation is supplied with a Strain Gauge Installation Sheet for traceability. This document includes strain gauge data, strain gauge readings and photographs.

All this data is documented in PCM’s technical filing system for future projects. This information will aid future projects for continuous improvements in strain gauging and load cell manufacture. This in turn, leads to a quality product that remains reliable, economic to produce and delivered within an agreed time scale - all based on experience!

Amplifiers & Instrumentation

Amplifiers are electronics that do not have displays. They transform a load cell signal (mV/V) to another type of signal ie: analogue (e.g.: mA, V) or digital output (e.g.: RS232, RS485).

The load cell and amplifier will require calibrating together for the system to work correctly. This is done by applying a known force to the load cell and the amplifier gain to be set.

Transducer

A transducer is a generic name that is a device which is usually electronic that coverts a physical attribute to a measurement signal.

PCM offer three types of transducer:

  1. Pressure – measures gas or liquid pressure. Pressure is an expression of the force required to stop a fluid from expanding. The transducer generates a signal from the pressure imposed upon it.
  2. Torque – measures the torque (or twisting motion) on a static or rotating system. The static torque element has little movement and therefore more economic to manufacture and purchase. Rotary or dynamic torque is more complicated as the signal needs to be transferred using slip rings, wireless telemetry or rotary transformers / inductance technology so that the strain gauged shaft can continuously rotate.
  3. Displacement – measures distance. The dsplacement transducers that PCM offer are slightly different to standard units. They have a strain gauge / wheatstone bridge. The benefit here is that if the customer has existing electronics that uses strain gauge / load cell technology, they can them with these sensors.
