The Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) is a new mandatory emissions trading scheme that aims to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted in the UK.
Organisations that meet the qualification criteria will have to monitor their emissions and purchase allowances, based on the amount of electricity consumed.
Non-compliance could result in financial penalties or in the worst case a custodial sentence.
An annual Performance League Table will be published, showing the comparative performance of all participants. All revenue raised from selling allowances is 'recycled' back to participants, either as a financial Bonus or penalty.
