Q-Line® Product Shrinkage
Q-Line® solid timber, which is a natural product containing moisture, is dried artificially after the initial logging process, causing the wood to shrink. A certain amount of residual drying and shrinkage continues until stabilisation is reached. In a centrally heated home, lateral shrinkage of 2.5 - 3% is quite normal for new Q-Line® machined profiles.

Q-Line® General Information
The majority of Q-Line® solid softwood mouldings are produced from Scandinavian Pine (Pinus sylvestris) European redwood, unless where indicated as Scandinavian spruce (Picea abies) also known as European whitewood. Both species are creamy white in colour but the heartwood (wood from the centre of the tree or log) of European redwood tends to be a reddish brown colour. Both species contain knots (where the branches interconnect with the trunk of the tree which tend to contain mobile resin). Both species are easily worked with traditional hand and power tools and accept fixings and stains/paints and varnishes well. If an opaque coating is desirable ensure any visible knots (or resinous areas) are sealed with a good quality shellac knotting solution (Such as Everbuild Patent Knotting) to avoid/minimise resin bleeding through the subsequent surface coatings.
