Pressure Washers for Home use:-
Cold water pressure washer that will run from a 13 amp socket would be many peoples first choice.
Remember you can not get out more than you put in.
You are restricted to your electric supply, for a domestic house that is single phase 230 volts. You can only turn this into about 120/130 bar pressure at about 10 lpm flow - it is impossible to get more, there is just not enough power in the supply to convert it into more pressure/flow.
If you go for an engine driven pressure washer then the sky is you limit or maybe your pocket!

For cleaning the car, small patio areas and other odd jobs then look no further than the KRANZLE range of electric pressure washers. The Kranzle K7120 is a very popular machine for the car valeting boys.

We do not sell cheap DIY pressure washers we leave that to the 'stack-em high, sell-em cheap' boys (they are imports from far far away and offer very little if any back up or spares - (we know as we get loads of phone calls for bit and bobs - most of the time we can’t help) - we are also told that the place where it was bought from don’t want to know!

If you plan to use your pressure washer for hours at a time then always go for one where the electric motor runs at 1450 rpm and not 2800 rpm. A pump that runs at the slower speed will suck water into itself better and not get as hot.

To clean a larger area of, for example, drive ways, patios, car parking areas using a flat surface cleaner like a WHIRL A WAY then you need a pressure washer that delivers about 15 lpm at 200 Bar. With this type of output you start to pressure wash with the pressure washing guys who do it for a living.

Industrial Pressure Washers/Commercial Pressure Washers.

Typically this type of pressure washer fall into the range of 200 Bar upwards.

For commercial pressure washing you need a combination of flow & pressure to suit the job in hand. Pressure will clean, but to rinse you need flow to push the dirt away. With a pump that delivers 30 lpm flow or more will push the crap away and the pressure cleans.

Sometimes water supply is not that good, sometimes excess water is a problem to get rid of; a low flow/high pressure machine might be the better option in that case.

For cleaning barnacles from steel boat hulls start with a machine over 400 bar, better still with 500 Bar. If you want to remove paint as well then 1000 Bar is what you will need with a turbo nozzle.

Hot or Cold Water Pressure Washers

Hot water comes into its own when removing graffiti & cleaning buildings.

We all know from washing dishes that hot water makes cleaning easier, especially if we are cleaning greases, oils, or petrochemicals. Cold water can only be as effective if the proper cleaning chemicals are also used. Hot water can often make cleaning faster by loosening dirt, gum, grease and oil. Most hot water units use a diesel heater, the pressurised water is passed through a heavy duty heating coil (see Hotbox) which can raise the temperature to over 120c as the water is under pressure. Having said that most of the time water of 98c is the hottest used as over that temperature it turns to steam and the force (pressure is lost).

Hot water is often kinder to the surface than just cold - why? - because if it is stubborn, greasy dirt then with cold water one tends to up the pressure or point the nozzle closer to the surface being cleaned, this can sometimes damage what you are cleaning. Hot water loosens the grease/oil/dirt and very often makes the job quicker with less damage to the surface and no need for nasty chemicals.

The first step in picking a pressure washer is determining how much performance you need to get the job done. How much pressure? How much flow? Do you need hot or cold water? Is petrol, diesel or electric power better, safer, quieter, or cheaper? Once you have decided upon these factors, discussed in the other sections, you need to pick a product. Pressure washers with the same power plant will have similar performance, for example an 11 HP petrol engine unit will typically produce 200 Bar at 15 lpm. So it is often difficult to decide between different products except on price.

Quality is what sets one pressure washer apart from another. Two pressure washers offered by two different manufacturers may have similar performance in terms of pressure and flow but quite different in terms of quality of components and unit configuration. They will also vary in price. When buying a pressure washer selecting the correct performance for the cleaning job at hand is just the first step. The second step is looking at the quality of construction and the quality of the components and can you get spares and replacement parts for it.
