Pattern Shop
A fully equipped pattern shop enables the sand foundry to manufacture a vast range of precision sand castings. Single or multiple patterns may be produced to any size using wood or resin.
Similarly, individual loose patterns can be produced inexpensively. These are ideal for making design prototypes or pre-production batches of precision sand castings.
Fine Precision Sand Casting
The fine precision sand casting facility comprises of three casting sections, each of these have their particular attributes, the result of which is a highly flexible and adaptable facility.
The boxless/block casting section is used for the production of sand castings from 1kg up to approximately 30kg. Using either wood or resin pattern equipment, this method gives excellent repeatability whilst achieving extremely tight tolerances, which can result in the reduced need for costly machining operations.
Investment Tooling / Fixtures
The design and manufacture of the investment/lost wax die is one of the most important stages in the production of quality investment castings. We use our industry acclaimed design expertise and a network of sub-contract toolmakers to ensure 'right first time', on time delivery of samples.
Our in-house toolroom designs and manufactures all the machining fixtures and drill jigs required by our two machine shops to ensure maximum accuracy and efficiency of service.
Precision Investment Casting
Maycast-Nokes manufactures precision investment castings in an extensive range of light aluminium alloys, stainless and low carbon steels, as well as a range of copper-based alloys. Full details on the technical specification of the materials we cast can be requested by clicking on 'Properties of Materials' button.
Due to the close tolerances, the thin wall sections and the amount of cast-in detail which can be achieved by precision investment casting the designer has far greater freedom than with any other metal forming process.
In addition to greater flexibility of design, expensive secondary machining operations can be minimised.

Gravity Die Casting
Gravity die casting is ideal for the production of a wide range of casting sizes in a number of different alloys.
The castings can be heat treated to achieve superior mechanical properties and improved machinability. The process uses cast iron dies with steel cores which results in excellent repeatability. Internal features can be cast by using shell cores.
Fully machined and finished castings can be supplied and the company's engineers are available to provide assistance with casting design.
Machine Shops
The machining facility comprises of two machine shops, both of which are fully integrated departments within Maycast-Nokes.
Both machine shops are supported by full dimensional inspection facilities.
This impressive range of equipment in conjunction with the fully skilled engineers who program and operate them means we are able to have a highly flexible approach such that we are competitive on both small and large volume batch work. including one-offs and prototypes.
Owing to our wealth of experience in manufacturing castings and then machining them, we are able to engineer customers requirements from the start.

Radiography Department
Radiographic inspection utilises x-rays to produce an image of a casting, or part of a casting on a film, showing the thickness variations of the casting and subsequently any internal discontinuities such as porosity, inclusions and shrinkage.
Maycast-Nokes NADCAP approved radiographic facility incorporates two X-Ray cells, one housing a 320 Kv x-ray unit, and the other housing a 200 Kv X-Ray unit, this, combined with fully automatic film processing, computer generated radiographic techniques and subsequent interpretation of radiographs, fully reported, by experienced and fully qualified technicians, enables complete control over the customers radiographic requirements.

Heat Treatment
Maycast-Nokes NADCAP approved Heat Treatment Department has facilities to perform solution, precipitation, annealing and stress relieving on a wide range of aluminium alloy castings in accordance with AMS and British Standards. In addition Heat Treatment can be tailored to the needs of a specific customer or part. Maycast-Nokes heat treatment facility is available for independant subcontract work.
Finishing & Assembly
To complement our extensive on site casting, machining and testing facilities we can also accommodate finishing and assembly requirements.
We are able to offer most of the common surface treatments associated with aluminium components including alochroming, anodising and painting (wet or powder). We also have the capability to carry out mechanical assembly work.
This means from one purchase order it is possible to source fully machined and finished castings and if required, assembled into complete assemblies or sub-assemblies which can go straight to the production line.
