LGV HGV & PCV Driver Training

Wallace School of Transport can help you boost your Job prospects by providing a comprehensive LGV HGV & PCV Driver Training course. We can asses your driving skills initially and our trained professionals can advise you on the correct training course to do in order to pass your test.

Anyone who has passed a UK car test before January 1997 probably has LGV C1 / 7.5 tonne entitlement on their car licence.   But if you're over 18 you don't have to pass LGV C1 first.  Go straight to LGV C (HGV Class 2) and choose Back-to-Back training if, after passing C, you want LGV C+E (HGV Class 1) as soon as you have provisional C+E.

To discuss your options for LGV HGV & PCV Driver Training we can provide or just to get more information, please don't hesitate to contact us and we will be more than happy to help you make an informed decision.

LGV C1 Driver Training 3.5t - 7t

Our LGV C1 training is available in Greenwich, Park Royal and Wembley. Specially selected, our ideal training vehicles meet all DSA requirements, and include:

•hydraulic brakes and other simple car like gears and controls.
•compact dimensions so you'll have no difficulty manoeuvring and negotiating driving hazards.
•helping you save time and money by learning quickly.
•FREE Air brakes familiarisation lesson for anyone intending to drive a full size 7.5 tonne vehicle.

The procedures to get a C1 licence is the same for any LGV: obtaining provisional entitlement, sitting the DSA theory tests, completing practical training and passing the driving test as well and completing the Initial Driver CPC.

C1 Ambulance & Paramedics Drivers

C1 Ambulance & Paramedics Drivers

If you are considering working as a Paramedic or in the Ambulance Service, as a minimum, you will need to hold LGV C1 entitlement. For some regions, you'll also need to hold a PCV D1 entitlement.

Our 5, 7 or 10 day courses are specially discounted for prospective Paramedic/Ambulance Service personnel.

We advise your ideal course duration by completing a simple telephone questionnaire or an on-road assessment. Our C1's - 5.5 Renault Mascot and Ford Transits are ideal training vehicles.

LGV C1+E Training

If you need to tow a trailer at the back of your van or truck, then you will need to pass either the B+E or C1+E test.

Van or trucks that are heavier than 3.5kg are C1 vehicles. So if that type of vehicle is your prime mover then as well as LGV C1, you will need the C1+E entitlement on your licence.

Civil engineers towing mini diggers or mini excavators, Arboreal Specialists and Tree Surgeons towing chippers and mulchers. Recovery vehicle drivers and Recreational Vehicles towing leisure craft, cars, motor bikes or boats behind their RV's may all need the C1+E entitlement.

We also deliver training for RDT - Rapid Deployment Trailers often used by breakdown and recovery service supplies.

LGV C

LGV C

You don't have to pass the LGV C1, 7.5 tonne truck licence first. Go straight to the LGV C licence and drive any rigid lorry up to 32 tonnes. After passing the LGV C, you'll be able to drive both C1 and LGV C vehicles.

And after passing C you can go on to LGV C+E, in a back to back course, to drive trailers including articulated vehicles and drawbar combination up to 44 tonnes

LGV C +E

To obtain your LGV C+E licence, your examiner will allow you to use either an Articulated or Drawbar combination. All our LGV C vehicles are fitted with a Drawbar towing hitch.

Our drawbars are very easy to position, stable and comfortable and are particularly easy to reverse as they are Close-Coupled and their road wheels are positioned in the middle of the trailer.

Progress quickly from C to C+E by needing only a few hours training by using the LGV C training vehicle that you've just passed your test on and that you're already familiar with but this time using the C vehicle with a trailer attached.

ADR

ADR

Drivers and companies need to understand and must comply with legislation to help keep the transportation of dangerous goods safe. Legislation is in place to ensure drivers gain specialist knowledge and skills and understand the practical application of specific health and safety techniques.

Employers are responsible for making sure existing staff are fully qualified and that new staff have already or are willing to gain relevant qualifications.

Anyone new to the qualification will need an INITIAL course. Existing ADR holders can take REFRESHER courses. Certificates are valid for 5 years. In the final year prior to expiration, a short re-certification course re-qualifies the driver for a further 5 years

Driver CPC Periodic Training

With the introduction of Driver CPC Periodic Training, Wallace School of Transport is providing a JAUPT Approved Programme in conjunction with RTITB Master Driver.

Refresh your knowledge and learn about Tachographs at the same time as working towards your 35 hours Periodic Training. Take a look at our other available Periodic Training Sessions.

Please remember Periodic Training counts towards Drivers Hours.

We offer single periodic training days at our Park Royal Centre on Mondays and Saturdays. We can also offer conduct training at client premises/suitable local venue.

Lorry Loader Crane/ HIAB

Lorry Loader Crane/ HIAB

Vehicles can have:

•Manual level controls
•Remote Controls
•Brick grab attachment
•Hook attachment
When booking your training, please remember to tell us if you have any particular requirements.

For example, some builders merchants require their drivers to hold a ‘remote’ certificate.

At the end of training, as a successful operator you are issued with a ITSSAR Certificate and photocard which is recognised across the UK.

Or if you wish to use your Lorry Loader Crane training towards your Driver CPC Periodic Training Hours, you also have the option of a RTITB NORS Certificate.

Passenger Carrying Vehicle Training

Whatever Passenger Carrying Vehicle driving job you are aiming for, we can help you obtain the licence you need. All our PCV training vehicles are based at Wembley which is easily assessible by public transport and free parking is also available.

We recommend all our customers to take a DRIVING ASSESSMENT LESSON. Visit our school, meet our instructors and try our vehicles. During the lesson our instructor will evaluate your current driving skills, relevant experience and establish training needs, then provide training recommendations and we will quote you based on those findings.

PCV Manual Coach

PCV Manual Coach

When you pass a PCV test on a manual gearbox coach, you have passed the top PCV licence and you can drive any Passenger Carrying Vehicle regardless of the number of seats or the type of body, i.e. single or double-decker, service bus or saloon coach body, automatic gear box or manual, and minibuses.

It's good to have the top PCV licence for a wider range of job opportunities. However, in our experience, most people need more training than if they choose to acquire an automatic gear box PCV and this means a greater cost.

Manual Coach and Trailer Licence Training - PCV D+E

If you are an experienced coach driver and want to enhance your driving credentials and touring opportunities, maybe driving on the continent, consider the flexibility of obtaining D+E.

Our Manaul Coach is fitted with a towing facility so we can provide training for you to obtain PCV D+E to drive a Coach and Trailer across UK and Europe.

PCV D1 Minibus Training

If you obtained your UK car Licence before January 1997, you may hold restricted D1 entitlement to drive a minibus for Social and Pleasure but not for paid work (Hire and Reward). However, for starting a job driving a Minibus (or a Limousine with more than 8 passengers) you’ll need to pass a PCV D1 driving test.

Although there are some exceptions, e.g. for volunteers age 21 or over driving small minibuses for Not for Profit organisations, but in most instances DVLA consider that if a minibus is used for public transportation, drivers of these vehicles must conform to the same legislation as a driver seeking employment with the licence.

PCV Minibus and Trailer -D1+E

PCV Minibus and Trailer -D1+E

If you need to carry more baggage or equipment like canoes, kayaks, camp gear and tents then towing a trailer may be the answer for you.

Indeed, drivers and tour guides working at holiday companies, or youth workers and scout/guide leaders often re-approach us having passed their minibus test when they need to upgrade their D1 entitlement for trailer entitlment.

If your minibus is full of passengers and there is no space left for luggage and equipment, the obvious solution is to house it all in a trailer and tow it behind the vehicle as it continues along to your site or holiday destination

Operators CPC

Operators CPC

Holding a Certificate of Professional Competence is an essential qualification required by law for anyone wishing to operate vehicles. Obtaining this qualification demonstrates the professional competence of the owner operator or transport manager responsible for the control of goods vehicles or of anyone applying for an Operator's Licence

To gain the CPC qualification candidates must sit formal examinations which are held four times a year (March, June, September and December) and successfully complete a case study as part of the examination process. Examinations are administered by OCR on behalf of the Department for Transport.

B+E - Car plus Trailer

If you obtained your car licence after January 1997 you will need to take trailer training and sit a DSA driving test to acquire B+E entitlement as new drivers may drive a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight (GVW) with a 750kgs GVW trailer which may not be big enough for your purpose.

PCV D Automatic Bus

Many people choose an Automatic Bus Licence because driving a vehicle fitted with an automatic gear box is quicker and easier to learn to drive than a manual gear box.
There are plenty of opportunities for working as a bus driver. For example, all London's Red Buses are automatics.

The licence is not affected by the number of seats or the type of body (i.e. single decker or saloon coach body) and passing on a single deck vehicle will still give you a licence to drive a double decker.

Horseboxes, Transporters and Trailers

Our various locations for training suit clients with a need for local training. Our flexible timetable means we can usually ensure driver training times suit your schedule and events by offering either intensive courses or single days of training to a timetable

Training for Recreational Vehicles and Luxury Motor Homes

With developments in luxuriously equipped RV’s, clients often contact us once they find the weight and size of the vehicle is more than their car licence will allow them to drive.

Many of the bigger American and some British and European Touring Motor Homes are over 3.5 tonnes so you must have Category C1 to drive them which can be a problem for anyone who obtained their UK licence after January 1997.
