The means of cleaning will be determined by the type of problem and may involve an industrial vacuum, a jet spray, paint, or simply a dust pan and brush and bags. The waste will be disposed of with a duty of care and the work site will be left clean and tidy.
Commercial Pest Control London
Please also refer to our Bird Control website at: www.1st4pigeoncontrollondon.co.uk
Beaver Pest Control London predominantly deals with pigeon and gull problems although other pest bird species can also be controlled.
Roosting of birds can be classified according to how many are present. If there are a lot of birds in one area it suggests that the pulling factors are significant, these could be a sheltered area, a source of food and water or even south facing ledges or pipes.
The above factors will determine whether roosting pressure is high, medium or low, and in turn this will affect the type of bird deterrent required.
In addition to proofing against birds we will clean the area of droppings and, if necessary, jet wash and paint to remove or hide staining. We will also spray with an insecticide to kill any related insect pests and with a biocide to destroy any bacteria.
Electric Fly Killers & Fly Control London
Beaver Pest Control can supply, fit and maintain the correct electric fly killer (EFK) for your premises. Ultra violet light is given off by the bulbs which attract flies to an electrified killing grid or a sticky board. The phosphorous element within the bulb diminishes over a three to six month period and therefore must be regularly replaced.
Proofing and Exclusion
Proofing is the name given to the methods used to prevent pests entering an establishment. Beaver Pest Control specialise in providing and fixing these systems.
Proofing is essential as part of integrated pest control management. It is your first line of defence; it advertises your commitment to pest-free conditions and your compliance with the Food Safety Act 1990 and Food Safety Regulations 1995.
Bed Bugs
A bug that is flattened vertically and oval in shape, it is 6mm in size and red to brown in colour. The bed bug is a nocturnal parasite that feeds on blood while the victim is asleep. Reaction to bites can be severe and extremely upsetting.
Treatment will not be successful unless the technician understands the biology and behavior of this insect. Time, thoroughness, knowledge, the correct product and application and help from the client is essential to control this hardy pest.

Beetles
Beetles belong to a group of insects known as Coleoptera (sheathed wing). They account for around 25% of all known life forms.
Many beetles can be beneficial to society and do not require treatment; they may only be outside or just occasional intruders. Nevertheless, once certain types enter and start to attack food produce or textiles they can then cause an immense amount of damage. These types of beetles are usually known as SPI (Stored product insects) or textile pests.
Treatment will depend upon the type of beetle and therefore careful identification is required first. For example the woodworm beetle looks almost identical to the biscuit beetle but both attack completely different materials and thus require a different approach in treatment.
Cockroaches
The German Cockroach is the most common cockroach in cities as they prefer warmer conditions. Howeverm the Oriental Cockroach is also known as the Common cockroach as it is the most widespread throughout the UK.
Cockroaches have a purse-shaped egg case called an ootheca, the Oriental holds around 16 eggs and hatches between 2-3 months, the German holds around 36 and hatches within 1 month. The ootheca of the Oriental Cockroach is tolerant to insecticide, this along with the fact that the ootheca is hidden soon after formation and the length of time it takes to hatch makes control more difficult. Nevertheless the proper formulation, the right choice of active ingredient used over a sustained period and correct application will lead to effective control.
Fleas
The flea belongs to the order of insects known as siphonaptera, they are wingless insects with well developed rear legs, which allows them to jump. Their mouth parts are adapted for piercing skin and sucking blood.
Cat fleas causes the most problems for British home owners and if there is not an animal around or there are a lot of fleas they resort to biting humans, usually around the ankles and legs.
Once fleas have established themselves within a home animals will need to be carefully treated as well as the home itself, off the shelf aerosol products are not normally effective.
Our trained staff will be able to give you further advice over the phone as to how we can help you, whether you will require one visit or two, our charges and how you can also help yourself. Getting rid of fleas really is a team effort.
Foxes
The fox is a carnivore and belongs to the Canidae family. They are slightly smaller than a domestic dog and are behaviourally nocturnal. Foxes are characterized by a long snout and a bushy tail.
Foxes are not pests except for when they come into conflict with humans, they can cause damage create fear and carry fleas. The urban fox in particular therefore is often deemed a pest.
By law foxes, unfortunately, can not be caught and then released. Foxes are very territorial and will not tolerate new foxes. Shooting is the only option that Beaver Pest Control offers in and around Greater London at present, following a full assessment of the situation.
Our fox control specialist does now carry out trapping in Soth West London and Kent, again this follows an initial full site risk assessment and a method statement.
Garden Ants
The black garden ant (Lasius niger) is the most common ant to be found in the UK. It is deemed to be a pest once it migrates inside or starts to cause damage to mortar or the stability of paving. The nest is made up of a single queen and a colony of around 4,000–6,000 workers (sterile females).
If garden ants have become a pest we will survey the situation to determine where the ants are harbouring and usually apply a residual insecticide or dust accordingly. Advice and recommendations will be provided to help you deter further ant invasions.
Mice
The house mouse originated from the Steppes of Russia. They are pregnant for three weeks and can have between 5 - 14 babies in a litter. Their total adult length including the tail is around 150mm and they are omnivores.
Mice urinate and defecate constantly, contaminating surfaces and food. Diseases associated with them include Murine Typhus, Trichinosis and Salmonellosis.
Good hygiene and proofing is important in an integrated pest control program, this means working hand in hand with the client. Mice in urban areas can be difficult to control as they may choose to avoid the bait, either mentally or physiologically. Skill, knowledge and care are essential to successful control
Pigeons and Other Pest Birds
The Feral pigeon originated from the Rock dove and is around 33cm in length and common in urban environments. Feral pigeons can breed throughout the year; two eggs are usually laid with incubation lasting around three weeks.
Fouling of buildings can be both an aesthetic problem and, due to their acidity, also destructive. Droppings can block gutters and pipes; they can create a slip hazard and encourage insects to infest buildings. The dust from droppings and feathers have been associated with an increase in asthmatic attacks.
Salmonellosis and Ornithosis are connected with pigeons, and bird fleas and mites can lead to further problems for humans. Please also click this link go to our dedicated bird control web site.
Rats
This rat is also known as the Brown Rat, Sewer Rat and Norway Rat. It is the most widespread rat in the UK, the only other significant species being the Black Rat. The Common Rat is an omnivore. It is pregnant for just three weeks, can have 6 - 11 babies in a litter and the total length of the adult including the tail measures around 400mm. Entry to buildings will usually be via broken drains, adjoining buildings, subterranean conduits or gaps and holes around the building.
Beaver House Services Limited has many formulations and active ingredients to control rats. This treatment will be most successful by completing a full survey, a risk assessment and a rodenticidal treatment as part of an integrated pest control management system. Careful use of pesticides is essential.
Squirrels
Grey squirrels (Sciurus carolinensis) were introduced to the UK from the USA in the late nineteenth/early twentieth century. Their success in breeding, foraging and its resilience has led to a decrease the native red squirrel.
Beaver Pest Control can use traps or Warfarin in a loft and cage traps outside. Fixed prices and advice can be given directly over the phone.
Stored Product Pests
Stored product pests (SPIs) include various beetles, moths, and mites that can infest whole grains or processed foods. Usually, the first sign of a problem is the appearance of small beetles crawling over counter tops, damage to the product or packaging, moths flying across rooms, webbing, or larvae crawling up walls or across ceilings.
The solution requires a thorough survey to find the infested produce and to determine the type of pest. Once this has been carried out a residual insecticide is usually applied after destroying all infested products in which these pests have developed.
For commercial premises we will provide a free site visit and quote, a Field Biologist report and quality control assessments are available if required.
Textile Beetles and Clothes Moths
Textile pests can be a significant threat to clothes, furnishings and especially textile collections. There are numerous species of beetles and moths that can cause damage to fibres. Among the most common are clothes and house moths and fur and carpet beetles.
You will need to positively identify the textile pest to assure that the right treatment is carried out. To do this you can describe the insect over the phone to us or send it to us in a non crush container. We can also visit the site if required.
If you are calling with regards to a commercial outlet or a museum we will visit the site to carry out a free quote and discuss the completion of a method statement. In these cases it would be advisable to adopt an ongoing detection and treatment program.
Tropical Ants
Tropical ants are increasing in occurrence in this country due to an increase in foreign travel and central-heated buildings.
Pharaoh ants are straw coloured and about 2mm in length. They follow trails and have multiple queens; this creates a problem as normal insecticides cause the nests to bud (split). Non-professional treatment is likely therefore to make the problem worse.
The correct treatment is essential; this is quite expensive as specific, slow acting products are required and a full survey of surrounding adjoining premises is often necessary to determine the scale of the problem.
Wasps
In the UK, wasp nests only last for one year, but the queens work over winter to create new nests in the following year and towards the end of the summer the workers can be very aggressive.
Wasp stings can be very painful and occasionally lethal. A professional should be employed with the correct protective clothing; they will usually treat the heart of the nest with an insecticidal powder applied with a special applicator.
