Toolmakers, often called tool and die makers, are skilled craftsmen who undergo lengthy training to achieve the level of expertise needed in their particular field. Their role in manufacturing is to form precision jigs, dies, moulds and machine tools. Precision cutting tools e.g. for milling machines are vital for manufacturing. Many toolmakers are multi-skilled, working in a large toolroom. Others work alone in a room dedicated to certain products. Most work closely with mechanical engineers and draughtsmen.
