Fall Protection Solutions are height safety experts specialising in the design, supply and installation of permanent fall protection systems. Appropriate PPE, end user training and access procedures can be provided by Fall Protection Solutions to ensure our clients are fully equipped to meet their safety at height obligations. A comprehensive testing and inspection service is also provided.
A wide range of specialist products are utilised to ensure full compliance with The Working at Height Regulations 2005 and other relevant British Standards:
- Safety lines are 'top fixed' to a modern roofing system or 'through fixed' to primary structure. Specialist anchors have been developed and approved for use with single ply, felt (including sedum covered or whether the deck be concrete, metal or plywood), metal clad and standing seam and roofs. Fall arrest and fall restraint systems are designed to BS7883:2005.
- Rail fall protection anchors such as the 'Roofsafe' product provide a rigid continuous fall arrest or fall restraint anchor point. The Roofsafe product can be top fixed to metal clad roofs and can also be used for abseil purposes. Because they don't deflect in the event of a fall, rail anchors are more suited where fall clearance is restricted.
- Guard Rail in aluminium or galvanised steel can be fixed, free-standing counter-weighted or top fixed. Fold-down guard rail systems are available.
- Eyebolts both fixed and removable for fall arrest, fall restraint and abseil applications.
- Roof anchors for slate roofs are an excellent way of providing protection for small, short duration works on roofs where the cost of scaffolding or other forms of protection would be prohibitive.
- Walkways uPVC and GRP provide long lasting, light weight, high friction solutions.
- Ladders are provided either hooped or with integrated vertical wire or rail fall protection systems. This can also be retro-fitted to existing structures.
- Overhead fall arrest cables and rails are used in conjunction with appropriate PPE to limit the severity and distance of a fall from height. Such applications are often used with those working involved in the transportation or modular building type industries, for example where employees must work on top of trains, planes, trucks, caravans, etc.. The Uni-8 overhead cable system can span up to 30m between intermediate brackets.
- Controlled Rate Descent Technology is an excellent way of providing overhead fall protection. Should an employee fall, they are simply lowered to the ground. No need for rescue and no aggressive fall arresting action.
- PPE refers to the safety items that may be carried by/on the person such as a harness, lanyard, rope and grab and fall arrest blocks. A wide range of these are provided.
- Abseil systems. Rope access is recognised as a safe and economical way of reaching areas where other forms of access are just not practical. Fall Protection Solutions work with our clients to integrate a means of safe abseil access into the structure of a building. This can be achieved through a rail system 'top fixed' onto a roof (Roofsafe) or fixed to the underside of a soffit (UniRail) or indeed the use of single point anchors. These pre-engineered systems all conform to BS EN795 and are CE Marked.
-
Working at Height Rescue Equipment. It is a requirement under the Working at Height Regulations that where a fall arrest system is used a rescue plan must be in place to retrieve a suspended operative within a 15 minute time period. You cannot rely on the emergency services. Fall Protection Solutions provide user friendly working at height rescue kits for the retrieval of suspended operatives.
All abseil systems provided by Fall Protection Solutions are suitable for use by access technicians such as those qualified under IRATA (the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association).
All work undertaken by Fall Protection Solutions is backed by £1M Professional Indemnity and £5M Public and Product Liability Cover.
Fall protection systems such as fall arrest safety lines and eyebolts will require an annual test and inspection. For example, a resin fixed eyebolt installed for fall protection purposes will require an axial pull out test of 6kN for 15 seconds. This test should be undertaken at least every 12 months as well as undergoing a thorough visual inspection involving the complete removal, inspection and reinsertion of the male part of the eyebolt by a competent and trained person. It is a common misconception that only 5% of resin fixed eyebolts need be pull tested. This is not the case. Fall Protection Solutions inspectors have undergone specific training with regards fall protection eyebolts by a leading industry expert. Inspectors have undergone manufacturer specific training for many different safety line and rail systems. This work is undertaken by Fall Protection Solutions and certificates issued. Abseil systems will require a thorough inspection every 6 months. At your request systems can be added to a register so that you will be automatically notified and quoted for the work prior to the test being due.
Fall protection systems requiring the use of PPE can only be affective with adequate training of the end users. ½ day courses are held at the premises of our clients to ensure staff understand the basics of the laws and regulations relating to working at height and also gain practical understanding and experience of using the fall protection systems. Trainees are tested and observed so that a certificate of competence can be issued to those that meet the course standard.
Fall Protection Solutions are experienced at working with architects, construction companies, facilities managers and maintenance companies. Work is undertaken on both new build and existing sites.
Site Survey and Recommendations
Our objective is 100 percent compliance with the Working at Height Regulations 2005 whilst minimising the impact this has upon your business.
Only by careful analysis of the way your personnel operate can a safety system be integrated into a safe system of work. This is usually achieved through a free site visit and consultation with one of our engineers.
