Engine mounted automotive components such as heat shields, fuel lines, brackets, sensors and actuators are subject to fairly consistent levels of vibration during use. They require durability testing during the production phase to ensure they will be able to withstand the vibration without developing faults. This is achieved through cyclic vibration testing over long periods.
As fatigue emerges in the components when they reach their resonance frequency and the various components possess different resonance frequencies the method of testing utilised is multi frequency sine sweeping.
