EMC Directive

Cranage is one of the leading companies for EMC testing electrical and electronic products in the UK.  Demonstrating conformity with the EMC Directive 2004/108/EC and the Low Voltage Directive 2006/95/EC is a basic requirement for CE Marking and without specialist knowledge and equipment many manufacturers would find it difficult to embed this operation within their day-to-day activities.  Founded 20 years ago, Cranage provides compliance testing solutions for OEM businesses and engineering professionals, handling their EMC Directive projects in the following market sectors:-

• Household Appliances
• Security, Fire & Smoke
• Electrical Accessories
• Medical & Therapeutic
• Mobility Aids & Stair-lifts
• Information Technology
• Professional Audio-visual
• LED & Induction Lighting
• Scientific & Laboratory
• Industrial Equipment & Machinery
• Power Supplies & Grid Inverters
• Surge Protection (up to 24kV 12kA)

FCC EMC Testing

The Code of Federal Regulations relating to Telecommunications, Title 47 (47 CFR) applies to intentional and unintentional radiators of electromagnetic energy.  FCC Part 15 relates to all radio frequency devices, and FCC Part 18 relates to industrial, scientific, medical, and household products that generate RF energy specifically to perform work.  Cranage is accredited for CFR47 Parts 15 and 18 and a listed FCC EMC Testing laboratory.  If you are seeking FCC approval we can assist you to deal with the technical and administrative requirements.

As well as FCC EMC Testing we also have UKAS and Industry Canada credentials which serve to promote us as the most reliable and professional choice for third party testing of electronic products exported to the United States of America or Canada.

LVD Testing

The Low Voltage Directive (LVD) applies to products which utilise voltages from 50V AC (up to 1000V) or 75V DC (up to 1500V) unless other Directives take precedence such as machinery, medical or radio. In the UK, the LV Directive is enforced by the Trading Standards Institute and the Health & Safety Executive.

Enquiries for LVD testing are handled quickly and efficiently by a team of product testing specialists, and you can speak directly with either a test engineer or our Test Laboratory Manager who will personally organise and manage your project.

LVD testing in our laboratory is scheduled and project managed to meet your deadline. Completion dates and timescales are agreed prior to project commencement and you are informed of any problem that may impact on the action plan.

R&TTE Directive Testing

Specialising in testing products which incorporate Short Range Devices and WiFi / Bluetooth modules, our laboratory is fully equipped for R&TTE Directive Testing up to 18GHz and offers a wide range of associated services for OEM’s.  We are committed to providing a fully comprehensive testing and compliance advisory service for manufacturers of equipment using wireless technology and also offer pre-compliance R&TTE Directive Testing to assist product designers in preparation for full compliance assessment.

As well as testing to meet radio and telecom specifications, our related services include:

• FCC & IC Modular Approvals
• EMC & Safety (EN60950-1)
• RF Exposure (MPE) testing
• Environmental testing

Surge Protector Testing

For electrical products which provide a surge protection function such as multi-way outlet sockets to protect computers and other household appliances, it is a requirement of the Low Voltage Directive that the overall design complies with standards for Surge Protection Devices.

We have a unique Surge Protector Testing laboratory for evaluating the performance and safety of SPD designs for protecting mains operated appliances and telecommunication equipment.

Our Surge Protector Testing facilities for generating mains short circuits, transient overvoltages and up to 24kV 12kA bi-directional impulses allow us to fully evaluate a wide range of surge protection products incorporating components such as varistors and GDTs.
