The accreditation process determines the technical competence and integrity of organisations providing inspection, testing, calibration and certification services. UKAS is the sole national
accreditation body, recognised by Government, to assess these types of organisations against international standards. It provides an independent and authoritative declaration that the organisation carrying out the survey has the people, facilities, technical expertise, management systems and track record to undertake the activity professionally and competently.

Asbestos Cement / Bonded Asbestos Materials

Asbestos Cement / Bonded Asbestos Materials

Asbestos cement was used widely from the 1940s right through to the mid-1990s. It often came pre-formed, for example water pipes, flue sections, corrugated roof sheets and flat boards. Its use and supply has been banned since 1999.

The potential for fibre release is low when in good condition and intact. The removal of asbestos cement materials does not always require the use of a licensed contractor.

It is often found in:- Ceilings, Wall partitions, Corrugated roof sheets, Water tanks, Flue pipes, Roofing Tiles, promenade tiles etc.

This lagging can contain up to 95% asbestos fibre and is very vulnerable to impact damage, vibration, water penetration etc. and it will deteriorate with age.

Typical applications include:- Pipes, StorageVessels (Calorifiers etc.), Boilers etc.
