Bakers and Confectioners

Until the past few hundred years, bakers were limited to bread-making, sometimes in public ovens for a small fee. This evolved into bakers making and selling their own bread in various shapes and sizes. Today, the range of products is huge, using many different flours and exotic recipes. Bakers have also taken on the role of pastry chefs and Confectioners, producing simple or ornamental sweets, buns and chocolate products. Large factories produce bread for the mass market and supermarkets and chain stores also produce their own.
