Designed specifically to mask blind holes during finishing operations, the silicone rubber Bakewell Blind Hole Plug will mask blind holes and protect the initial turn of thread from coating. They can be used in electrostatic powder coating, wet paint, plating and anodising applications.
The plug is installed, after any pre-cleaning operations, by placing the chamfered end into the threaded hole and rotating clockwise to draw it into the hole. The part is then coated and stoved if necessary. When cool, the plug is pulled out. Any build up of coating is removed by rumbling, or rubbing between forefinger and thumb. The plug can now be reused.

Ideal for plugging larger diameter and asymmetric holes, the silicone rubber BAKEWELL CONECAP can also be used to mask areas around holes, where coating would otherwise prevent metal to metal contact.
BAKEWELL CONECAPS are pushed into holes after any pre-cleaning processes, by hand, or with the assistance of a radiused ended insertion rod. The latter technique will give a better seal. After coating and stoving, the BAKEWELL CONECAP is removed by pulling on the flange.
BAKEWELL CONECAPS will withstand stoving cycles of up to 315C and are reusable.
The BAKEWELL PUSH-IN PLUG offers a simple method of masking for threaded and unthreaded holes, whilst also protecting the initial turn of threads from contamination by coatings. This is achieved, by the positioning of a raised lip where the end of the masking portion butts up against the part to be masked. To assist its insertion into the hole requiring masking, the PUSH-IN PLUG has a chamfered end and, except for the smallest size, has a blind hole which also allows the plug to deform slightly when being inserted.
The BAKEWELL PUSH-IN PLUGS can be used to mask holes in many finishing operations. Its silicone rubber construction makes it particularly suited to electro-static powder coating and E-Coat applications, where its high temperature tolerance allows it to be left in place during stoving operations.
BAKEWELL silicone rubber parts will soften and swell if exposed to some cleaning fluids, and as such, are best installed after any cleaning operations. Removal is undertaken while the part is still warm, with a twisting motion. Like other BAKEWELL parts, coating build up can be removed in a rumbler, or by rubbing by finger and thumb, leaving then ready for re-use.
BAKEWELL SPADETUBES & SPADECAPS offer a simple, cost effective method of masking and isolating electrical spade connectors. They can be used on punched, or pressed spades and those crimped or soldered to cables.
To prevent coating during finishing operations, the SPADETUBE or SPADECAP are pushed over the spade after any pre-treatment operations. The part can then be powder coated, painted, plated or anodised. They can be left in place during any stoving operation at up to 315 degrees C. When cooled, the mask is pulled off for reuse. Any coating build up can be easily removed in a rumbler, or simply rubbing between forefinger and thumb.
For the electrician, the SPADETUBE and SPADECAP can be used as a simple way of isolating a live circuit, by pushing over spade connectors. The SPADETUBE allows a test probe to be inserted to make contact for diagnostic testing. The high temperature resistance makes them suitable for use in hot engine areas.

BAKEWELL T-CAPS are a silicone rubber masking and protection cap that features a small lip just inside the opening. In use, only this lip is in contact with the thread, or pin. This means that there is less friction between the cap and the part being masked or protected, leading to faster application and removal of the cap. The flanged top of the T-CAP also makes gripping of the cap more positive, particularly if gloves are being worn by the operator. In short, whether used for masking or component protection, the BAKEWELL T-CAP will reduce production times.
BAKEWELL T-CAPS are suitable for wet and electrostatic coating processes, as well as plating and anodising. Being produced from silicone rubber, they can be stoved at temperatures up to 315C, then reused. Rumbling, or simply rubbing between forefinger and thumb can remove coating build-up. BAKEWELL T-CAPS should be applied after any cleaning operations that may cause deterioration of the rubber’s properties.

To prevent coatings from clogging the first turn of female threaded holes, such as rivet bushes, weld nuts, self-clinching nuts and tapped through holes, AFAC have developed the silicone rubber BAKEWELL THREADSTART PLUG. This device will seal the area around the hole and the hole itself.
The THREADSTART PLUG is fitted after any pre-treatment processes. The tail is inserted into the end of the hole that the mating screw will be screwed into. The tail is then pulled through the hole until the plug is drawn through until it butts up against the thread. The component can now be coated and, if necessary, stoved. After treatment, the plug is removed by pulling out of the hole by the large diameter that is projecting from the hole.
Like all BAKEWELL silicone rubber products, the THREADSTART PLUG can be reused time and time again. Any build up of coating can easily be removed by rubbing between the forefinger and thumb, or by placing in a rumbler.
BAKEWELL THREADSTART PLUGS are colour coded for ease of identification. Non-standard sizes can be offered, subject to suitable quantities.

Our preferred materials are: Silicone Rubber and E.P.D.M. Rubber. Both materials exhibit high temperature and chemical resistance, making them idea for many punishing environments. Ask which material is right for your application.
Masking tapes for all finishing operations are available. These are suitable for air-drying and stoved paint finishes, electrostatic powder coating and dip coating, as well as plating and anodising applications. The highest rated Kapton (polyamide) tapes can also be used for masking PCB’s during wave soldering.
The main consideration when selecting a tape is the temperature the tape will be exposed to, and the duration of time during stoving. Particularly with crepe paper tapes, it is important to remove the tape while the component is still hot, or a residule can be left. This is less important when using polyester or Kapton (polyamide) film tapes.
The popular polyester high temperature tape is stocked in widths from 6mm up to 150mm widths. Length of rolls vary with the various tape types.
Tapes for special purposes, such as lead and aluminium are also available to order. Please contact technical sales for advice.
BAKEWELL PLUGS are a conical plug, with a cylindrical head. Manufactured from silicone rubber, they are ideal for masking holes during electro-static power coating, E-Coat and dip painting processes. They will tolerate up to 315 degrees C and are re-usable. To aid identification, they are colour coded by size.
STUDSAVER CAPS are manufactured from two grades of PVC. For use as a protection cap, the general purpose grade is suitable, but if they are used to mask studs and rods during finishing operations, the high temperature PVC STUDSAVER CAP is necessary. This high temperature cap will resist stoving cycles at temperatures at up to 220 degrees C and are coloured yellow for ease of identification. Both types of caps are available in sizes to protect threads and rods from 1.0mm to 100.0mm diameters. Stock lengths are 12.7mm, 19.1mm and 25.4mm, depending on the diameter, though other lengths can be produced, subject to quantity. The low temperature STUDSAVER CAPS are stocked in black PVC, but can be produced in most other colours.
Uses for STUDSAVER CAPS are many and varied from masking, thread protection, finishing of tubular and wire products, scaffold pipe end caps, fibre optic cable blanking, sealing off of low voltage cables, equipment handles, and many more.
BAKEWELL SOCKETEX PLUGS, manufactured from silicone rubber, are used to mask the hexagonal socket in allen cap screws during painting and powder coating operations. This allows the socket wrench/allen key to fit easily into socket screws that may need to be removed at a later date for maintenance purposes, such as during the overhaul of electric motors. A hole is provided in the centre of the BAKEWELL SOCKETEX PLUG, to allow their use with security screws as well as the standard socket screws.
The plugs are colour coded for ease of identification.
BAKEWELL HAMMERHEADS are a double ended plug used for masking holes during finishing operations, particularly those invoving high temperatures, such as electro-static powder coating. As both ends are the same size, it reduces the time needed, as no orientation of the plug is needed before insertion.
BAKEWELL HAMMERHEADS are available in sizes to mask holes up to 12mm diameter and are colour coded for ease of identification.
BAKEWELL CORD is manufactured from silicone rubber. It has many uses from masking of slots in products during finishing operations to use as a gasket where high temperature or very low temperatures are to be expected.
This product is generally produced to order and therefore can be tailored to customers' exact requirements.
BAKEWELL COMBIPLUGS are a silicone rubber multi-purpose plugs for masking holes and earthing points during painting and electro-static powder coating applications. For hole masking the BAKEWELL COMBIPLUG is pushed into the hole to be masked until the taper fills the hole. If the hole needs an area around it protecting for an earthing point, the tail of the plug is pulled on, drawing the plug into the hole until the underside of the head butts up against the work piece. Once the finishing operation is completed, it is pulled out and can be reused.
CONVEYOR HOOKS are available in 'D', 'V', 'S' and other patterns to suspend items for painting and electro-static powder coating. The hooks are made from copper coated steel wire, giving an excellent conductivity.
Hooks are available in wire diameters from 1.1mm to in excess of 10.0mm and lengths of up to 900mm. Most sizes are boxed in 1000's.
BAKEWELL CAPLUGS are a silicone rubber, dome ended cap, used to mask threads and rods during finishing operations, particularly electro-static powder coating. As well as protecting male threads and rods, they can also be used to mask holes and bores, by simply using a radiused end rod to push them into holes, often resulting in a lower costing than a conventional plug or bung.
BAKEWELL CAPLUGS are colour coded to assist in selection and identification. They are available in sizes up to 100mm inside diameter.
BAKEWELL FIRTREE, or flangeless plugs, are produced in silicone rubber, to resist high temperature stoving temperatures found in stoving ovens. They feature an annular ringed taper with a finger grip on the end. They are ideal for masking larger size holes during electro-static powder coating operations.
The FIRTREES are colour coded for ease of identification.
Often, when carrying out an electro-static powder coating operation, it is necessary to mask threaded through holes. Usually a simple tapered plug or bung will suffice. If however it is a high quality product, the first turn of the threaded hole could become contaminated. The answer is the BAKEWELL THREAD START PLUG. This silicone rubber plug is drawn through the hole until the largest diameter butts up against the end of the thread. After processing, the plug is pulled out, leaving a clean thread and a small area around the mouth of it clear of coating.
The BAKEWELL THREAD START PLUG should always be installed from the direction that the mating fastener will be screwed in.
BAKEWELL THREAD START PLUGS are available to mask threads from M3 to M12 and are colour coded for ease of identification.
BAKEWELL FLANGED CAPS are used to mask a male thread and an area around it for earthing purposes. The silicone rubber BAKEWELL FLANGED CAPS are available to mask threads from M2 to M8, with various flange diameters to suit most applications.

BAKEWELL STARTUBE is a silicone rubber tube with a star-like cross section. It is used, mainly, to mask threaded studs and rods during electo-static powder coating applications. The star shaped section allows BAKEWELL STARTUBE to slide on and off components easier than round tubes, especially where the part to be masked is long. Ingress of powder is minimal, so offers an easy solution to long rod masking.
The BAKEWELL STARTUBE is supplied in colour coded coils ready to be cut into suitable lengths by the user.

BAKEWELL SCREW-IN PLUGS are used to mask holes and areas around holes. With different tapered plugs at either end and a central flange, these parts can be used for more than one size of hole.

BAKEWELL BUNGS are manufactured from temperature resistant silicone rubber, making them ideal for masking holes during electro-static powder coating. They are also used extensively in laboratories where stoppers that resist heat, cold and chemicals are needed.
The tapered BAKEWELL BUNGS are available to fit into holes over 100mm in diameter, while at the other end of the scale, others will fit holes down to 0.5mm diameter. Popular ranges are colour coded for ease of identification.
BAKEWELL HOLLOWBUNGS have all the properties of the standard BAKEWELL BUNGs, but have a recess in the small end. This feature makes the BAKEWELLHOLLOWBUNG more flexible and therefore easier to insert into holes. The lower volume of material used in their manufacture also give a benefit of lower cost than the corresponding standard bung.
SPOTMASKS are die-cut discs of masking tape on a backing film, used to provide uncoated areas on metalwork, where earthing points are required. Stocks are held of the polyester version of the SPOTMASK in sizes from 4.0mm to 150.0mm diameter. The polyester SPOTMASK will resist temperatures up to 220 degrees C, making them ideal for electro-static powder coating applications. For wet painting, a range of SPOTMASKS based on grades of crepe paper are available, so too is Kapton or polyamide SPOTMASKS, for use in elevated temperatures up to 250 degrees C, such as wave soldering.
As well as circular discs, custom made masks can be manufactured to order.
BAKEWELL TUGPLUGS offer an efficient method of masking through holes in metal work. Made from silicone rubber, the tail of the BAKEWELL TUGPLUG is passed through the hole to be masked, then tugged on to draw the larger diameter through the hole. When in place the tail is released, allowing the rubber to increase in diameter and seal the hole. The component can now be processed. After processing, the tail is again tugged upon to draw the plug out of the hole.
These parts are used extensively in engineering and especially in vehicle and aerospace application, where contamination of the hole would not be desirable.

GRIPPLE PLUGS are a PVC plug ideal for temporary plugging of holes in metalwork, castings, hoses etc. Two grades are available. A flexible grade for general purpose use and a higher temperature resistant slightly stiffer grade that can be used for masking purposes where stoving is required. The general purpose GRIPPLE PLUGS are red in colour, while the higher temperature version is black.
BAKEWELL TUBES are manufactured from temperature resistant silicone rubber, making them ideal for masking threads and rods during electro-static powder coating. They are also used in laboratories, peristaltic pumps, as vacuum pipes in vehicle engines, as electrical insulators and for irrigation systems where normal rubber tubing would perish and crack in sub-zero conditions.
Sizes from 2.0mm to 10.0mm are carried in stock, while other sizes can be manufacture in a matter of weeks. Stock sizes are offered in lengths of 40 or 50mm, as well as in continuous coils. These are colour coded for ease of identification, though they can also be offered in colours to suit the user too.
SO-LO Plugs are hollow PVC plugs used to plug smaller size holes to prevent contamination and also to mask holes in painting and some electro-static powder coating applications.
Sizes are available to fit holes from 4.0mm to 10.5mm diameter.
