Lawrence Churchill CBE - Chair
Lawrence Churchill is currently Chair of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, the Senior Independent Director and Chair of the Risk Committee of BUPA, Chair of Prudential's Independent Governance Committee, Chair of Pensions Policy Institute, a Trustee of AgeUK and of the International Longevity Centre and a Governor of the Pensions Policy Institute. Lawrence was previously founder Chair of the National Employment Savings Trust, founder Chair of the Pension Protection Fund, Chief Executive of UK and Ireland and of International Life at Zurich Financial, Executive Chair of Unum and founder Chief Executive of NatWest Life and Investments. Lawrence has served on the boards of the Financial Ombudsman, the Personal Investment Authority, the Association of British Insurers and the Board for Actuarial Standards. He was Senior Independent Director of Good Energy plc and Chair of the Audit Committee of Tunbridge Wells Equitable. Lawrence was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2010 New Year's Honours list in recognition of his public service.
Professor Jim Norton FREng - Non-Executive Director
Jim Norton is an external board member of the UK Parliament's Office of Science & Technology, Chairman of Serious Gaming International Ltd, the independent Chair of the UK Spectrum Policy Forum, a Board Member and Trustee of the Foundation for Information Policy Research, a Governor and Chair of the Audit Committee of Coventry University, a visiting professor at Sheffield University, sits on the Policy Committee of the Royal Academy of Engineering and on advisory panels for the Irish government. Jim is past president of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, and was Chief External Examiner for the IoD Certificate in Company Direction. Jim was a member of the Strategic Stakeholders' Group of the UK National High-Tech Crime Unit prior to the creation of the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). In business his non-executive roles have included Securicor plc, Senior Independent Director of Zetex plc and Chair of the Audit Committee of FC Capital Income Investment Trust plc. Jim was formerly chief executive of the DTI Radiocommunications Agency and later led the Cabinet Office team that produced the PIU report 'firstname.lastname@example.org' for the Prime Minister in 1999. Jim was a member of the Independent Climate Change E-Mails Review and a Commissioner in the IPPR Commission on National Security.
Stuart Brocklehurst - Chief Executive
Stuart was appointed Chief Executive of Applegate in August 2014. He started his career at Barclays, with roles in Corporate Banking, Systems Planning and Strategy. As Head of E-Commerce Strategy he set the course which led Barclays to become the most successful UK bank online. In 2001 he was recruited by Visa International CEMEA as Senior Vice President and Head of Digital Commerce, responsible for e-commerce, mobile commerce, smartcards and other emerging technologies. In this role he drove the rapid take up of digital technologies by Visa's member banks and piloted mobile payment and contactless chip services which have since become widespread. He negotiated the acquisition of the major Nigerian payments company, enabling Visa's entry into the largest market in Africa, and under contract from the US Treasury established the initial national payments infrastructure in Iraq following the 2003 war. On leaving Visa, he was retained in an advisory capacity to the President, whilst joining Carbon Leadership as a Partner, consulting to major City institutions and banks. He executed the conversion of Carbon from limited company to Limited Liability Partnership. In 2010, Stuart moved to Madrid to support the Initial Public Offering of Amadeus IT Group. Following the successful conclusion of the flotation, he was appointed Group Communications Director. In this role he delivered dramatic growth in coverage across traditional, online and social media and cut the Group's agency costs by 20%. Stuart has served as a non-executive director on the boards of several companies, mainly in the technology sector, and was Chairman of Octopus Apollo VCT2 plc. He has provided pro bono support to several charities including the Charities Aid Foundation West Africa, the Diocese of Exeter and Pilton House Trust. In 2017, Stuart became a Governor of Petroc, a college based in Devon.
Paul Tweedie - Chief Operating Officer
Paul oversees Applegate's performance and leads its change programme. Having started his career in local government, Paul has a strong understanding of the business climate here in the South West. He went on to establish his own business that he sold, prior to joining Applegate. At Applegate, he has held a number of roles across the business, providing him with a deep familiarity with the company's operations. Paul also oversees the Content function within Applegate.
Chris McCormack - Finance Director
Chris joined in 2015 from Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Prior to Applegate, he built his career in finance at leading investment banks and hedge funds, including JP Morgan, Credit Suisse and BlueCrest Capital Management. Additionally, he built and grew his own business, a ski chalet company in the Alps, which he then sold. Chris is responsible for all aspects of Applegate's financial management, forward planning and credit control.
James Harding - Sales & Marketing Director
James joined Applegate in 2013, bringing extensive experience within business to business sales. He served as Sales and Marketing Director of JNBH Ltd and National Sales Manager for Intek Communications Ltd, providing him with a broad skill base rooted in communications, customer satisfaction, digital marketing and new business development.
Adrian Bale - Head of Quality and Systems
Adrian joined the company in 2001 working to support and develop the network and software at Applegate. Since then, Adrian's role has grown to include maintaining Applegate's infrastructure, hardware and operating systems. His responsibilities cover the company's security, telecommunications, email and Health & Safety.
