Frequency control specialist, Euroquartz has completed installation of a new class 7 cleanroom facility at the company’s Somerset headquarters. This significant investment is designed to ensure that the company continues to play a critical role in the UK manufacture of oscillator products for military and aerospace applications and ensure UK defence contractors can fulfil their requirements for surface mount device (SMD) oscillators.

The new cleanroom facility was installed early in 2019 and is currently being commissioned with an expectation of adding a new range of SMD oscillators to its current range of through-hole products before the end of the year. Existing UK manufactured products will also benefit from the cleanroom environment and the company anticipates improved quality for its UK production for the foreseeable future.

Euroquartz has been manufacturing quartz crystals and oscillators in the UK for almost 40 years when the personal mobile radio industry was thriving. Since that time the company has continued to produce high specification quartz crystals and military oscillators in its UK facility at Crewkerne in Somerset.

The ambition of the company is to offer high-quality UK manufactured products to the aerospace industry free from all ITAR restrictions. “The ongoing turmoil of Brexit and other world events suggest that the timing for this significant investment in our UK facility is right,” commented Euroquartz Director Andy Treble. “It is important to maintain manufacturing for critical frequency components in the UK particularly for military and aerospace projects.”

Euroquartz has AS9100 rev D certification and is a wholly privately-owned British company making it an ideal partner for the UK defence and aerospace industry.

Last week saw members of our team visit Taiwan to see our main supplier factory, Mercury Electronics Ind. Co Ltd, located in Taipei. They went to learn about the entire crystal process, from infancy to end product. It was a very successful week and all staff involved were very grateful for the experience, to aid their specific roles further.

Euroquartz Launches New Low Profile Differential Output Crystal Oscillator From Statek.

Frequency control specialist, Euroquartz has launched a new low-profile, differential output crystal oscillator (DFXO) from Statek, designed for use in applications requiring low jitter and ultra-high frequency differential outputs in a small footprint.

Available in frequencies from 20 to 300MHz (fundamental mode), the new DFXO is available in standard 6-pad 5 x 7mm surface mount packages measuring just 1.75 or 1.85mm high depending on terminations. Designed for operation over the temperature range -40 to +105°C, the new Statek DFXO offers LVDS, LVPECL or CMOS outputs with low phase noise (-148dBc/Hz at 100kHz) and typical integrated timing jitter of 0.3ps (both for LVDS output).

Frequency stability is ±100ppm over full temperature range (±50ppm over -40 to +85°C) as standard with tighter tolerances (±25ppm) available to order. A tri-state enable/disable option is also available.

Standard supply voltage is 3.3V ±10% with 2.5V ±10% available and no external decoupling capacitor is required with optional internal capacitor of 0.01µF. Additional specifications include shock survival of 5000g (0.3ms, ½ sine) and vibration survival of 20g (10 to 2000Hz swept sine). Ageing is ±5ppm for first year depending on frequency.

The new Statek DFXO from Euroquartz is supplied in tray packs or tape and reel for surface mount applications with maximum process temperature of 260°C for 10 seconds. Applications include military and aerospace avionics, communications and networking.

Mercury Electronics Europe has announced that the company’s quality management system has been certified to ISO/TS (Technical Specification) 16949 for the manufacture of quartz crystal products for the automotive industry.

TS16949 accreditation offers a number of benefits, the most obvious being access to the automotive sector where more electronic devices are being included in vehicles as manufacturers look to improve vehicle safety with features such as automatic braking systems, increase connectivity with Wi-Fi, add value with in-car entertainment and provide intelligent charging systems for electric and hybrid vehicles. All of these features require electronic circuitry so there are opportunities for larger volumes of business for MEC Europe.

Euroquartz Launch Their New Low Profile MEMS Filter Range Plus A New Shortform Filters Catalogue.

Frequency control specialist, Euroquartz has launched a new range of low profile MEMS (Micro ElectroMechanical System) filter products offering major benefits of small size and very low profile making them ideal for use in embedded applications. The company has also published a new four page shortform catalogue covering its new MEMS filters and traditional RF filter ranges.

Using the latest MEMS technology, it is possible to produce bandstop and bandpass filter products that offer a very low profile (≤0.5mm) solution. The advantages of Euroquartz MEMS filters are their small size offering high reliability and high performance, covering the range from 2 to 50GHz.

MEMS filter types available include bandpass, bandstop, lowpass, attenuator chip, time-delay line, substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) and micro-shielding.

Offering a low 1dB insertion loss with ≥30dB at 3.0 and 7.5GHz attenuation they are ideal for microwave communication equipment such as base stations, wireless transceiver systems and small size RF front-end requirements.

Recent discussions have resulted in an agreement to collaborate in a partnership relationship.

Temwell are a high quality manufacturer of Helical Filters, Tuning coils, Cavity Filters, Stripline Filters and Duplexers.

Temwell are also able to offer obsolescence solutions for Toko,Murata and Sumida tuning coil products which have become an issue in recent years.

There is a synergy between the companies that is expected to bring success to the new collaboration, whilst offering Euroquartz customers an extension to the high quality product portfolio that Euroquartz offers.
