Link Instruments Ltd

At Link Instruments, we are a global supplier of quality products such as CO2 level indicators to the marine, fire safety, diving and electrical industries.

Our ULLC2001 ultrasonic liquid level indicator is used accurately around the globe as a reliable halo, FM200 and CO2 level indicator in liquid gas cylinders.

  1. Link Instruments named Ultrasonic Instruments Manufacturer of the Year
    6 April 2021

Precision equipment manufacturer Link Instruments has won the title of Ultrasonic Instruments Manufacturer of the Year in the Corporate LiveWire Innovation & Excellence Awards for 2021.

The judging took into account a variety of factors such as service, innovation, experience, sustainability and other key criteria.

The Awards were established to celebrate the success and achievements of companies and individuals that have taken an innovative approach in demonstrating exceptional business performance.

“Customers are always saying how much they value our instruments, so we are delighted to receive this public recognition of our innovative products,” said Link Instruments’ Dominique Christie.

One of Link Instruments’ flagship instruments is a fire extinguisher fill checker for quickly assessing banks of fire extinguishers. The ULLC IS uses ultrasound to locate the boundary between the liquified and gaseous gas in the cylinder so that the amount of extinguisher fluid present can be calculated.

Rated for use in hazardous areas, the instrument is the only intrinsically safe, ATEX approved model in the world for checking fire extinguisher levels

  2. Electronics Design consultancy Pentlow Gets A Relaunch
    22 July 2020

Following its acquisition by Link InstrumentsPentlow Electronics Consultancy has been relaunched and given a new web site. Specialising in small-scale production and custom electronic development, the Hampshire based company has a heritage of professional design solutions for blue chip companies.

Typical products developed by the consultancy include controllers for the temperature and level control of corrosive fluids, advanced fill measurement for carbon dioxide cylinders and an ultrasonic thickness gauge for ship hull testing.

Working closely in industrial and domestic control applications enables Pentlow to share ideas and proven technology from one project into another. On many occasions it has created modules of technology that could be deployed easily into new products. This results in a more cost effective solution and helps clients to bring their product to market more efficiently.

“We also specialise in small-scale electronics manufacturing, where our low overheads enable us to offer a particularly cost effective service,” said Pentlow’s Iain Christie.

The company’s new web site includes details of case studies on the consultancy’s work on developing automatic door locking and safety modules for trains, the redesign of industrial printers for use on production lines, and an air pressure alarm module for improving commercial diving safety.

Pentlow’s new web site can be found at www.pentlow-electronics.co.uk.

  3. Link Instruments Pressure Alarm Has Been Developed To…
    22 July 2020

It is able to monitor up to three supplies normally monitoring the pressure in the outgoing supply with the pressure sensors set at desired trigger point. By changing the pressure transducers the same unit can be used for both high and low pressure monitoring.

The unit is powered by an external 12volt supply which can either be battery or via a supplied mains adaptor. Upon start up the system performs a self check test to ensure here are no faults such as poor connections, if a fault is detected an orange light illuminates. If the system is working and at normal pressure the green light will illuminate however if there is any drop in pressure the red light will illuminate and a warning buzzer will sound (this can be muted).

The system can be built into new systems or retro fitted into existing systems providing an audio-visual warning. Housed in an aluminium enclosure with large buttons and warning lights this unit provides the supervisor/operator with additional safety benefits and will make existing diving panels conform to IMCA Regulations.

  4. Smart Fire Extinguisher Fill Checker
    22 July 2020

The time and cost involved in checking the fill levels in banks of fire extinguishers in hazardous areas can be considerable, since it can require lengthy shutdowns and a large number of man hours. However, this is not the case with the ULLC IS from Link Instruments, which, being intrinsically safe, allows the extinguisher levels to be checked without interrupting normal operation.

ATEX certified to II 2G Ex ib IIC T4 Gb, the upgraded device uses ultrasound to locate the boundary between the liquified and gaseous gas. It is suitable for fire extinguisher cylinders using liquid C02, Halon, FM200, NOVEC, etc.

In operation, the transducer is placed against the cylinder body slightly below the expected fill level and gradually raised until the reading jumps sharply. This is due to the enhanced propagation or surface acoustic waves when the transducer reaches the liquid/gas Interface.

“we believe that the ULLC IS is the only intrinsically safe, ATEX approved model for checking fire extinguisher fill levels," said link Instruments’ Dominique Christie.

The instrument is supplied with an ultrasonic transducer and an extension pole for accessing bulk system installations on ships, etc. It will be particularly useful in industries such as oil & gas production and also in the marine sector.

The company is also proud to state that the ULLC IS is designed and manufactured in the UK.
