  1. Simplex Sprockets with Induction Hardened Teeth
    5 April 2016

Simplex Sprockets with Induction Hardened Teeth (45 to 55 Rc)

Due to an increasing demand for items with hardened teeth Cross+Morse is extending its range of simplex pilot bore sprockets for 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4 & 1” pitch to include a hardened tooth option.

We now offer a Standard Stock Range of Pilot Bore Sprocket in C45 with Induction Harden teeth which have the same dimensions as the Standard pilot bore range. These sprockets can be machined to suit a customer’s own requirements.

Simplex Sprockets with induction hardened teeth, bored with keyway and two setscrews (45 to 55 Rc)

Cross+Morse is also offering a range of simplex pilot bore sprockets to include items with special features such as bore with H7 tolerance, UNI keyways and set screws for locking.

The teeth on these items are Induction Harden 45 to 55 Rc and the keyway is located on the centre line of the tooth.

    Why use Hardened-tooth sprockets?

As the chain contacts the sprocket, frictional wear of the tooth and sprocket occurs. With each rotation, every sprocket tooth contacts the chain. The hardness of the tooth directly relates to sprocket life. A sprocket with a “hardened tooth” may last three times longer than a softer sprocket.

Induction hardening only hardens the area near the applicator coil which means that sprockets and gears will have hard teeth and not hard bores.

  5. NEW! Chain Drive Installation Guide
    11 January 2016

Cross & Morse manufacture and supply a complete line of drives to meet the challenge of modern industry, where ever increasing powers and speeds are required in production machinery combined with precision timing. Roller Chain Drives can provide the flexibility of design and the durability that your application needs at low costs.

Roller Chain Drives offer a number of design advantages: The positive action of precision roller chain is highly efficient throughout the life of the drive without power loss due to slippage, providing efficiencies of up to 98.5%.

Roller Chain Drive selection is Simple and Direct. Installation, including centre distance tolerances, does not require the accuracy of other power transmission media. Roller chains can be easily connected by standard connecting links; there is no need to disturb sprockets, shafts or bearings to replace chain.

Our technical team at Cross & Morse have put together a handy guide for the design of your Roller Chain Drives, including power rating graphs, calculations, formulae and tips for lubrication and maintenance.

  7. Belt & Chain Tensioners
    11 January 2016

Cross Tensioners provide constant belt or chain tension. Their automatic tensioning action translates into improved performance and extended life for most types of fixed-centre drives. Additionally, the built-in spring mechanism acts as a buffer, absorbing momentary overloads and reducing vibration.

Tensioners are available in a number of sizes and mounting styles, ideally suited for drives on agricultural machinery, off-road vehicles, conveyors, packaging machinery, printing presses and many other industrial applications.

Precision construction and high-quality materials are combined for a superior product with proven durability in the toughest environments.

Tensioners can be supplied as base units for adaption by customer, or as complete assemblies with chain sprockets/ guides for roller chain applications. There are two basic designs of tensioners available; the Rotary Tensioner and the Linear Tensioner

  10. New Range of Stainless Steel Taper Bushes available from Cross + Morse
    11 January 2016

Cross and Morse have unveiled a new comprehensive range of Stainless Steel Taper Lock Bushes in Stainless Steel 304 material. The range consists of 1008, 1108, 1210, 1610, 1615 and 2012 sizes and they are available in any shaft diameter, both metric and imperial.

Our taper bushes provide a low cost, simple, quick method of securing sprocket, pulleys and couplings to a wide range of standard metric and imperial dimensioned shafts of general commercial tolerances and finish. The taper surfaces on the bush and mating hub are driven together by high tensile screws, causing the split bush to be firmly contracted onto the shaft. The strong clamping force which can be achieved enables transmission of high torque without the problems of fretting associated with simple keyseated drives. The design ensures quick, easy installation of sprockets and pulleys onto shafts with simple positioning for alignment.
