Sponge rubber, also known as open or closed cellular rubber is rubber which has been fabricated with a foaming agent. This creates an air-filled internal cellular structure. Open celled sponge rubber can absorb materials whilst close cells can not. Commercially available forms of sponge rubber are made from materials such as polyurethane and EPDM among other types. Foam sponge rubber is [produced in rolls and sheets. It can be cut and shaped to form components such as washers and gaskets or cut into sheets and strips for alternative uses.
