With 6 valuable Apprentices working at Applegate towards their Business Management Degrees, National Apprenticeship Week is a great opportunity to celebrate the success of our Workplace Degree students and help encourage apprenticeships as a pathway to a great career.

Jack Richards is one of Applegate’s most recent Apprentices and he frequently visits schools/colleges across the country to help spread awareness about the Workplace Degree Programme and the other alternatives to University which help gain a higher education qualification.

This week Jack rolled up his sleeves and delivered talks for National Apprenticeship Week – part of a national scheme to give talks on apprenticeships to over ten thousand young people, parents, teachers and careers’ professionals.

Tuesday saw Jack presenting and debating at Blundell’s school in Tiverton, which has a rich history of prestigious university destinations being achieved by its Sixth Form. This week’s emphasis on Apprenticeships led parents, teaching and pastoral staff to think slightly differently about the future of the young people in their care. Alongside a Senior Lecturer from the University of Bath and the Head of Apprenticeships at Plymouth University, Jack talked about his experiences and then went on to debate Degree Apprenticeships versus traditional routes to university. He also presented to schools in North Devon representing Applegate and the Apprenticeship service alongside Adrian Richfield of Education and Employment and Sahara Stockwell of the Bideford Job Centre.

Jack isn’t the only one of the apprentices that gets ‘out and about’ as part of the learning experiences Applegate encourages; Joanna Nancekivell has attended industry tradeshows and held demonstrations at multi-day events across the country, even indulging in a diet cola at the exclusive Ritz hotel in London.

Claire Knight has made the decision to continue her time with Applegate focusing on Accounting in the Finance department whilst completing her Degree Apprenticeship. Claire will specialise her Business Degree in Finance and go on to taking her Accounting exams funded by the company.

For those that are worried about ‘just making the tea’ all of the 6 Apprentice currently hold important responsibilities as part of their daily routines in Applegate, Phoebe Ward, James Parker and Jon Loates have all experienced challenging roles in Marketing Automaton, Account management, E-Commerce Management and Supplier Sourcing.

Not only will the Applegate Workplace Degree Programme help you achieve a Business Management Degree, 5 years work experience and 2 management qualifications, you can benefit from an optional 6 weeks sabbatical to go travelling or use as you please, enjoy work related experiences including trade shows and finally the Applegate First Rung Housing Scheme, where Applegate match up to £10,000 of your savings to put towards a housing deposit in the area.

Business Degree, 2 management qualifications, 5 years work experience, no debt, and a deposit on a house. Apprenticeships are definitely worth shouting about!
