Walter Frank is an FM approved manufacturer of non-ferrous water transfer and fire protection fittings. We provide a bespoke design and engineering service to offer our customers a complete product manufacturing solution, often unique.
Our standard product lines include FM approved globe valves and pressure regulating valves for defence, construction, oil, gas, petrochemical, on-shore and off-shore applications.
PRV9i is an FM approved, 9 bar, interchangeable pressure regulating valve for defence, construction, oil & gas and petrochemical applications.
Walter Frank designed and launched the PRV9i range in 2008 in response to the need for a genuine 2.5” Nominal Bore pressure regulating valve. PRV9i offers the end user great flexibility from both a maintenance and operational perspective due its interchangeable cartridge system. This means the ‘through life’ cost of PRV9i is less expensive than competing products because servicing is quicker and easier with less down time on the system. PRV9i has the ability to regulate pressure from 3.5 to 9 bar and is available in various configurations. Since its inception the range has been specified for use in prestigious projects such as Heathrow Airport (UK), the Wheatstone offshore project (Australia), the ZADCO project (UAE), and the Crossrail London Underground project (UK).
UK Made & Quality Assured
[UK h233px] PRV9i valves are manufactured and assembled in our FM approved production facility in the United Kingdom. Quality is assured by our numerous approvals and certifications.
Design, casting, machining and assembly plus full flow testing and calibration are all performed in-house and carry FM Approval. Full certification and testing is available as required. PRV9i is unique in exceeding the requirements of British fire-fighting Standard BS9990 in terms of interchangeability and performance. PRV9i is for large scale infrastructure projects where trust and reliability are fundamentals of supply for such safety critical environments.
A Valve for Home and International Projects
PRV9i is at the forefront of pressure regulating equipment in the global fire-fighting industry. Compliance to national and international standards makes PRV9i the valve of choice for home and international projects.
PRV9i can be certified by independent bodies such as Lloyds, Factory Mutual (FM) and Underwriters Laboratory (UL). PRV9i is therefore the prominent choice for fire-protection for petro-chemical and demanding infrastructure environments where such approvals are automatically requested. PRV9i has already been supplied for many high-profile building projects including Bishopgate Tower (“The Pinnacle”) in London.
As a complete and flexible solution to pressure regulation in offshore environments, PRV9i has been specified for projects involving the outfitting, refurbishment and maintenance of offshore platforms. In recent times, Walter Frank has supplied over 1000 PRV9i valves for the Wheatstone LNG onshore project in Onslow in Western Australia. This project involved the design and complete supply of the firewater hydrant station including all coded fabrication work. Other projects of note for PRV9i include the design and supply for the ZADCO project (UAE) which included the design and complete supply of the permanently charged wet barrel pillars, as well as the Crossrail project (UK) which utilised a bespoke design for hydrant assemblies for the tunnel sections to run across London. These projects demonstrate our ability to supply complete solution packages to our customers for large infrastructure and demanding projects.
Flexibility of supply
Our UK-based and highly resourced casting, machining and assembly platform allows us to offer responsive lead times. We have a collaborative approach with our customers, offering a design and engineering service for unique product solutions. Walter Frank offers commercial or FM approved ranges of gate and globe valves for fire hydrant systems. Components are offered in corrosion-resistant materials for long-life and reliable operation.
Designs are compact with excellent flow characteristics and are supplied in accordance with BS5041 part 1 or 2. Body and internals are designed for 20 bar working pressure with standard or non-standard connections.
Walter Frank globe valves are available in four configurations – horizontal, bib-nose, oblique and right angle, with flanged, screwed or other connections to suit.

We pride ourselves on being able to satisfy almost any requirement for fire hose fittings and equipment.
Items from our British Standard range are generally designed to BS336, and are therefore suitable for a 15 bar operating pressure. Most items are manufactured in either aluminium or gunmetal and different finishes such as polishing, anodising and chrome plating are available. Where pressure retention is not required, blank caps and plugs are offered in rubber and plastic.
A vast range of ‘specials’, many to customers’ own specifications, are produced. Different materials, such as aluminium bronze, and combinations of different materials are regularly used.
For more information about specific products, visit our product catalogue which contains further information on our full range of standard brigade fittings, fire hydrant valves, monitors and ejector pumps. Most items can be made with non-standard connections to suit particular applications.
Walter Frank aims to provide a complete service, and as such offers a wide range of ancillary fire fighting equipment.
