LEV Testing

McCarthy Environmental Ltd are leaders in COSHH/LEV examinations on systems used for the control of sunstances hazardous to health.

Our Examination and Test includes:

  • Thorough visual and structural examination
  • Measure of technical performance
  • Assess control effectiveness
  • Produce and issue to you an H&SE compliant report, including photographs and recommendations on any "issues" that are found.
  • Provide recommendations, advise of any remedial works required and where possible, provide a quotation to carry out works and re-assess the system(s) on completion.
  • Hold an electronic copy of your COSHH LEV report for five year (as required by the H&SE under their COSHH LEV requirements).

WHAT ARE THE LEGAL REQUIREMENTS?

Regulation 9 of the COSHH Regulations state that every employer who provides any LEV to meet the Regulations shall ensure "it is maintained in an efficient state, in efficient working order, in good repair and in a clean condition"

HSG258 Section 10 Thorough examination and test details the frequency and requirements of LEV testing. The frequency of the tests should be annually but no more than 14 monthly and some processes such as metal grinding are more frequent. The examination and test should be carried out by a competent person or contractor.

Thorough Examination and Test

The benefits of using a McCarthy Environmental Ltd service are that our highly qualified engineers thoroughly understand the H&SE regulations and carry out all LEV testing thoroughly and in full accordance with current guidance and standards.

The thorough examination and test checks the control effectiveness of your LEV systems. The test includes air flow and pressure measurements which are then compared to the commissioning report, issued when the equipment was installed.  The control effectiveness will be demonstrated to the user by means of a smoke test or Tyndall lamp.  A test label will be attached to each machine indicating the date of the test and the next test due date.  A "Failed" label will be attached to any equipment which fails to meet the regulations and use of the equipment should be ceased until a repair has been facilitated.

COSHH Documentation

A test report is compiled for each LEV system.  This will include the findings of the engineer, air flow measurements and condition of the examined components.  Any recommendations by the engineer will be on the report along with filter condition and replacement record.  Your LEV systems will need to be monitored regularly to make sure they are working. The necessary information will be given to you when the engineer visits, on how to maintain your systems and the regular checks which you should be carrying out.  Upon completion, a Certificate is issued which states that the equipment is suitable for the purpose of effectively controlling the hazardous material.  It is important to note that Adequate LEV records and reports must be prepared and held for a minimum of 5 years.  A sample report is available from the HSE website www.hse.gov/lev

WHAT IF MY SYSTEM(S) DO NOT COMPLY WITH LEV REGULATIONS?

Our attention to detail is paramount. If your system does not comply, our engineers will identify any defects with the system(s), advise on any remedial works that are required and where possible we will provide a quotation to carry out  corrective works and to re-assess the system(s) on completion. Where a system is not suitable for purpose or is beyond economical repair, our engineers will recommend a suitable replacement.

Composite Exhibition 2016

An exciting event for ESTA and McCarthy Environmental Ltd at the Composite Exhibition 2016 -

An exciting exhibition took place at the NEC, Birmingham, at the beginning of November. The halls were buzzing with activity during the Advanced Engineering Exhibition.  Proving to be the best attendance to date.

Networking, forums and demonstrations took place.  The key areas encompassed: composites, automotive, aerospace and performance metals.

It was great to catch-up with some familiar faces and meet some new ones too.

The ESTA team in partnership with McCarthy Environmental Ltd (Dr Peter Kulitz, Ulrike Kulitz, Mick McCarthy, Markus Vierling, Gary Prentice and Chris Byrne),  were able to showcase some of their innovative products.

The Compasog ST, OILMAC 400 and the Dustomat 4-24 were very well received by visitors to the stand.

In addition, were able to highlight the innovation of the Filtower range, which is proving very popular. Particularly, as this allows greater flexibility of ventilation and extraction, when working with fumes, dust and vapour.

Safety for the end user has never been so easy, with portable plug and play systems which are all ready to go.

We look forward to seeing you all again at the NEC next year , during the 1st and 2nd November 2017.
