Face-Fit Testing

MECsafe are able to provide qualitative face-fit testing service for your employees, this can be undertaken on-site, at your premises or at our Training Centre in Doncaster.

If you provide respiratory protective equipment (RPE) to your employees then it is essential that you have documentary evidence to show the RPE fits the wearer. By subjecting each wearer to a face-fit test you can be sure that your organisation is fulfilling the requirements laid out in the Health & Safety Executives (HSE) guidance note HSE 282/28.

What type of masks require Fit Testing?
RPE Fit Testing is required for all tight-fitting face pieces including all filtering face pieces (disposable face masks), half masks and full-face masks. This includes negative pressure full-face masks as well as power-assisted full masks, and both self-contained and air-fed breathing apparatus.

What does the Face-Fit Test Involve?
The HSE information document 282/28 recommends that Fit Testing procedures should comprise a series of 7 exercises which should be performed for at least one minute each. The wearer must achieve an individual pass result in each of the 7 test exercises within one single testing period. ie if a single one of the exercises fails then the whole test must be repeated. The minimum time required to conduct one face-fit test to include purging and ambient sampling time is 15 minutes with additional time required for training users how to use their mask.

Construction NVQ's

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are the most widely recognised qualifications in the construction industry and they are the standard that all workers must achieve. These vocational qualifications form the basis of card holder schemes such as the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card. These cards are becoming a necessity for getting work.

NVQ’s enable experienced workers to convert their existing skills into an NVQ certificate by assessing their work on-site and building up a portfolio of evidence to support them.

It’s done at your work, while you work, with a minimum of inconvenience for you or your employer. Generally you can gain your qualification within 3-6 months.

Asbestos Surveys

Asbestos surveys are a legal requirement, as defined within the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR 2012) in the following manner;

All non-domestic properties built prior to 1999 are required to have an Asbestos Register in place, to comply with Regulation 4, “Duty to Manage Asbestos in Non-Domestic Premises” which states that an asbestos register should be produced which should detail the extent and condition of any asbestos material found within the premises, and any remedial action necessary to manage the asbestos material safely. Surveying buildings for asbestos materials takes various forms depending on a client’s need and the present uses of the building, however, to ensure compliance with current legislation an asbestos Management Survey should be carried out on all non-domestic buildings in the UK built prior to 1999.
