A small, family run travel company, Peter Sommer Travels design inspirational trips of a lifetime: expert guided tours, enlightening and relaxing gulet cruises and family holidays. They offer a range of small group Turkey tours, Greece vacations and Italy tours taking guests to some of the world’s best preserved ancient sites, from Greek and Roman times and beyond.

Peter Sommer Travels specialise in escorted tours: archaeological and historical tours, food tours, adventure family tours and walking holidays, as well as bespoke Turkish gulet charters. National Geographic Traveler magazine has rated their tours one of the ‘100 Best Worldwide Vacations to Enrich Your Life’.

The company was started by Peter Sommer who in 1994, walked 2,000 miles across Turkey, retracing the route of Alexander the Great. In the process he fell in love with the country, its people, and its ancient civilizations. He began organising and leading tours in Turkey in 1996 and still leads some of the company’s tours to this day. An award-winning TV Producer/Director as well as an archaeologist, Peter has worked on many acclaimed BBC TV series, such as In the Footsteps of Alexander the Great and Tales from the Green Valley.

Accredited by AITO and ABTOT, the company’s itineraries are primarily gulet cruises - along the turquoise coast of Turkey, through the Greek Islands, or along the shore of Italy. They aim to combine relaxation, good food and swimming with cultural adventures. Alongside their gulet holidays they have a number of land tours such as historical tours of Istanbul and Cappadocia in Turkey and a Gastronomic tour of Sicily.

Their tours focus on particular regions or on key characters from history, like Alexander the Great. Their expert tour guides, archaeologists and historians, are steeped in the history and culture of the destination and strive to vividly bring the past to life.
