Engine Oil

Engine oil, often referred to as motor oil or engine lubricant, is used for the lubrication of automotive internal combustion engine. The main function of engine oil is to keep moving parts free of sludge, reduce wear and tear on moving parts, inhibit corrosion, keep the engine cool, and improve sealing. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) have created a numerical system for grading motor oils in accordance with their viscosity. SAE viscosity grades numbers refer to two measurements, with the first measure cold temperature performance (0W, 5W, 10W, 15W and 20W). The second set of viscosity grade measurements refers to high temperature (8, 12, 16, 20, 30, 40, 50). Engine oil is used by automotive tradesman, industry enthusiasts and vehicle owners to ensure optimum running and cleanliness of the vehicle.
