NAS Systems

Network Access Storage or NAS as it is popularly known is a type of data storage server designed for providing simultaneous access to saved files to a large group of networked computers. NAS is a specialised type of computer and NAS systems are sold as separate computer appliances. NAS systems are designed to store large amounts of data and as such contain multiple storage drives arranged in RAID (redundant array of independent disks) or logical, redundant storage containers. NAS systems remove the need for a separate file serving server and these devices use several file sharing protocols such as NFS, SMB/CIFS or AFP for file serving.
