SAN Systems

Storage Area Network systems or SAN systems as they are popularly known are used for providing block level data storage and are like network attached storage or NAS systems. Although there are certainly many differences between a SAN system and a NAS system. The main difference between a SAN and NAS system is the file serving capability of a NAS system which is absent in a SAN system as these provide only block level data storage. Both storage system use disk arrays for storing vast amounts of data. SAN systems use Modular SAN arrays, Monolithic SAN arrays and Utility storage arrays as opposed to RAID which is used in NAS systems.
