Motherboards are printed integrated circuits which play an essential role in the functioning of any type of computer. In addition to its own functions it allows the communication between various peripherals and central processing unit and in this way acts as an important link between CPU and other important parts of a computer. Motherboard specifically refers to a printed circuit board which acts as a mother to all other peripheral items as sound card, video card, network cards, hard drives, TV tuner cards, cards for USB slots etc. are attached to this board. Motherboard is present in all types of computers and even in laser printers where it is known as mainboard. Although, not all people consider a mainboard found in other devices as a motherboard.
