3d printers are printers just in name as they are basically used for manufacturing several items from 3d models. 3d printing uses molten metal or plastic and works on the same principles as an inkjet printer and thus 3d printers got their name.

Dot matrix printers were early type of computer printers which dominated offices and workplaces alike during 1970s and 1980s. Although, in recent times they have been largely replaced by less noisy inkjet and laser printers. Dot matrix printers remain in use in several industries.

Ink cartridges contain the ink used for printing in inkjet printers and are essential to the functioning of any printer. Ink cartridges come mainly as black or colour cartridges. Black cartridges contain black ink, whereas colour cartridges contain cyan, magenta, yellow and black inks.

Inkjet printers use liquid ink stored in an inkjet cartridge for printing on paper. During the printing process ink drops are dropped via nozzle also known as jet and thus the name inkjet and form the images or text on paper. Inkjet printers dominated the scene in 1990s and 2000s and are still used across several offices and business establishments.

Label printers as the name suggests are used for printing labels of various sizes and can be seen in all sort of offices, workplaces, industrial and manufacturing plants. Label printers mostly print on self-adhesive label material or card-stock which is used for sticking tags.

Laser printers are arguably the most widely used printers in our times and can be seen in most offices, universities, homes and other places. Laser printers as the name suggests use a laser beam for printing process and are quite complex as compared to let’s say inkjet printers.

Photo printers as the name suggests are specifically designed specialized printers used for printing photos from a vast array of digital devices such as digital cameras, smartphones etc. Photo printers offer the best print quality which cannot be matched by any other type of printer.

Thermal printers use a unique heat based mechanism of printing and print on a piece of special thermal paper which changes colour when exposed to heat or thermal radiation. Thermal printers are used at filling stations, point of sale systems, information kiosks and at automated teller machines.

Toner cartridges are also known as laser toners and are the essential for the functioning of any laser printer. Unlike inkjet cartridges, toner cartridges contain dry powder made up of plastic particles, colours, carbon etc. which is used for creating images and text on a paper during the laser printing process.
