Cable Conduit

Cable conduits are a tube to protect or route electrical wiring both inside and outside a building. They resemble a tube or duct within which the cables are enclosed. They can be made of metal, plastic, fibre or fired clay. Apart from the differences in their construction material, they can be rigid or flexible (which looks like a corrugated material.) The choice about which cable conduit to use would depend on its application. One type is EMT ( Electrical Metallic Tubing) which is made of galvanised steel and is inflexible. This makes it ideal for protecting communications cables, especially outside. It withstands high heat environments and is extra strength. The IMC (Intermediate Metallic Conduit) also has a thicker wall for outdoor applications although the Non-Metallic conduit is also used. Flexible conduits are often used for indoor applications where there are not such extremes of heat. They are suitable for protecting cables from water, vibrations, oil or corrosives. Conduits are generally seen in industrial or engineering facilities where cables have to be protected from dangers in the working environment. They are only used in domestic residences when cables have to be laid outside.
