Laser Scan Micrometers

A laser scan micrometer has a rotating optical element which reflects or refracts a laser beam into a measurement area, and then across the path of an object to be measured. In this process, the object or part obstructs the laser light and creates a shadow which persists for a time directly proportional to the size of the object. In laser scan micrometering, sensors enable a vast variety of applications, this includes the monitoring of the presence of a target object, right through to recognition of any gaps, as well as web-edge detection. Laser scan micrometers can measure round, and non-round parts while in-process and provide a very stable way of gauging measurements. Industries that use laser scan micrometers include engineering, metallurgy, and the wire and cable industry.
