Coordinate Measuring Machines

A coordinate measuring machine (CMM) is a tool that measures the physical geometrical characteristics of any object. A CMM can manually controlled by a machine operator or they can be controlled by a computer. Measurements are defined by a CMM probe attached to the third moving axis of this machine. The parts which make up a CMM machine include probing system, data collection and reduction system, and the main structure (or body) which includes three axis of motion and two legs which allows for movement over a bridge. Coordinated measuring machines are used by those in the field of aerospace, automotive, electronics, industrial or medical applications.
