Indicators

Indicators are instruments used in the field of metrology for making and checking linear measurements. They are essentially the analogue or digital dial used to report data in the likes of scales. The benefit of indicators is that they are much easier to read and understand the results (compared to plug gauges, gap gauges, micrometers and vernier scales). Some types of indicators include dial micrometers and test indicators. Indicators can be analogue, with a clock dial face, or digital. When a dial indicator is used in a process of comparison, it is usually referred to as dial gauge. Two industries that use indicators are metalworking and metrology. However, one example of indicators exists on the dial on bathroom scales.
