Straight Edges

A straight edge is a measuring instrument which has a length of a steel of both a narrow and deep section in order to provide considerable resistance against bending. Its purpose is to report on whether surfaces are straight and positions are straight. A straight edge returns values either digitally, or often via liquid bubbles. Many straight edge tools can return a vertical and horizontal measurement. Straight edge tools are used domestically, often when hanging something on the wall, but also in the field of construction and architecture. Straightedges are also used in the automotive service and machining industry to check the flatness of machined mating surfaces.
