Test Tube Racks

Test tube racks come in a variety of sizes, composition, materials and colours. They can be placed in an autoclave or fridge. They are commonly made of metal wires but they can also be plastic, polystyrene, foam, fibreglass and polypropylene. There are a variety of test tube racks. The classic rack is made of wood, stainless steel or plastic and can hold 8, 10 or 12 test tubes. The interlocking cube form is detachable; each cube holds one size but it can be attached to others. It can also hold culture tubes, centrifuge tubes and micro-centrifuge tubes. The stackable rack is made of polypropylene and can be disassembled for easy storage. The test tube drying rack allows tubes or chromatography plates to be dried in an inverted position to minimise the accumulation of airborne contaminants. The slant rack holds tubes at a degree after a media has been inserted into the tube. The 1-well rack is made of epoxy-coated steel wire and holds only one tube. Test tube racks are able to hold multiple tubes upright at the same time and so are essential in any laboratory. Work can be done on different solutions simultaneously and they ease organisation and provide support.
