Nitrogen

At room temperatures, Nitrogen is clear and odourless. Nitrogen is the most abundant element in Earth's atmosphere and many industrially important compounds, such as ammonia, nitric acid, organic nitrates and cyanides, contain nitrogen. Nitrogen occurs in all organisms, primarily in amino acids and, therefore, proteins, in the nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) and in the energy transfer molecule adenosine triphosphate. It is commonly used in aircraft fuel systems, the manufacturing of stainless steel, and to inflate race-car and aircraft tyres. Nitrogen is used in fertilizers and as an energy source. Nitrogen is also a component every major pharmacological drug class, including antibiotics.
