Carbon Steel

Carbon Steel, also known as plain-carbon-steel or mild steel, is steel whereby the main alloying component is carbon. With the addition of carbon, steel has the ability to become harder and stronger through heat treating. Carbon steel is broken down into four categories which are, low-carbon steel, medium-carbon steel, high-carbon steel and ultra-high-carbon-steel. Carbon steel with the lowest amount of carbon is called wrought iron and is used processes like fencing. Medium-carbon steel (mild steel) used for structural purposes in buildings and bridges. High-carbon steel is used in the manufacturing of springs and steel wires, while ultra-high carbon steel is called cast iron and is made to make pots.
