Flavourings

Flavour is a sensory impression applied to food to give a chemical sense of food or smell (sometimes of texture and also temperature). Smells actually play a major part in the flavouring process because smell is the main determinant of a food item's flavour. Compounds that enhance umami are referred to as flavourings. Three types of flavourings prohibited in the EU include natural flavouring substances, nature-identical flavouring substances, and artificial flavouring substances. Flavourings are used in the food and drink industry to enhance the sensory experience of eating (foods like meats and vegetables) or to create new flavours for products.
