A hoist is a machine used for lifting or lowering a load by means of a dram that is around ropes or chains. In essence, hoists can be defined as any machine that is used to lift heavy materials. Manual hoists are best used for small lifting jobs, that can be done easily by a human and does not require the power of a machine. Most of the time the lift is done simply by pulling a chain. The hoist works by multiplying your hand power so that it can hold up to 10 tons without any back strain. Manual hoists are often referred to as manual chain hoists or a hand chain hoists.
