Shrink Wrapping

Shrink wrapping, also known as shrink filming, is the process of wrapping a product in a material made up of polymer plastic film. Shrink wrapping works with heat, which, when applied, causes the wrapping to shrink tightly around whatever it is covering. In shrink wrapping, heat is applied with a handheld gas or electric heat gun or the whole product can pass through a heat tunnel (in the form of a conveyor). Shrink wrapping has multiple uses; it can even be used wrap buildings in the case of disaster. Shrink wrap can wrap roofs after hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes and other disasters. Shrink wrap can also be used in environmental containments to facilitate safe removal of asbestos, lead and other hazards. Most commonly, however, shrink wrap is used in packaging including cartons, boxes, beverage cans and pallet loads.
