Screws

Screws are essential fittings for a variety of appliances. The three key sections of screws, which determine their specific uses are: head, thread and drive. The heads of the screw differ according to their size and profile. Pan heads are the most common and have a low profile. Flat head screws are slightly countersunk. Countersunk screws are able to sit lower into a surface, providing no protrusion. Types of thread include machine screw threads, which provide high levels of accuracy. Self-tapping screws can be screwed directly into a surface. The type of drive determines how a screw can be fixed and adjusted. Slotted drives are the most basic. Other types include Phillips Prozi and Hex. Various types of screws are available with specific features that make them most suitable for particular applications. Integral seal screws are very specialized and designed to be used in sensitive applications. Shoulder screws are able to work with a range of other components, such as pulleys and sprockets. Other types of screws include captive screws, thumb screws and machine screws. Screws have a vast number of uses in an extensive number of applications. Particular types of screw are designed for specific applications, and as well as this all screws come with a choice of head, thread and drive – this means that whatever the application is, there will be a screw suited for the task in hand.
