Dowel Pins

Dowel pins, a parallel pin, are one of the best ways to locate and retain components (two or more) in fixed positions on an assembly. A key benefit of dowel pins are that they are reusable. This means that it is simple to take an assembly apart if necessary, and is straightforward to precisely reassemble as before. The full benefits of a dowel pin are assured if it is precisely mated with its hole. Dowel pins are available in a variety of styles to suit different applications. They can come with a chamfer at both ends, or domed at one end and with a chamfer at the other. Crown and domed combinations are also available. Dowel pins should be made to the relevant standards, such as BS1804 grade 1 & 2, ISO 2338B and DIN 6325. The wide range of styles for dowel pins ensure that they can be used with a vast range of applications. Further choice is also available in terms of material. Steel is normally used, but this can be mild, stainless, silver or alloy steel. Dowel pins can be hardened or ground and extractable dowels are available too.
