Gear Pumps

Gear pumps are one of the most common types of pumps for hydraulic fluid power applications and fall into the category of positive displacement pump. A gear pump uses the meshing of gears to pump fluid by displacement making them able to handle a wide variety of fluids. There are two main types of gear pumps - external gear pumps which use two external spur gears, and internal gear pumps which use an external and an internal spur gears. Gear pumps are widely used in chemical installations to pump high viscosity fluids, they are also used as lubrication pumps in machine tools, in fluid power transfer units, and as oil pumps in engines.
