Vacuum Pumps

A vacuum pump is a device that removes gas molecules from a sealed volume in order to leave behind a partial vacuum. The most common types of vacuum pumps are positive displacement pumps, momentum transfer pumps (also called molecular pumps) and entrapment pumps. Other industry positive displacement pumps include rotary vane pump, scroll pump, screw pump, diaphragm pump, roots blower, piston pump, liquid pump, piston pump, external vane pump, lobe pump and multistage roots toepler pump. Types of momentum transfer pumps include both a diffusion pump and turbomolecular pump. Types of entrapment pumps include cryomodule, sorption pump and non-evaporative getter pump. Vacuum pumps are used in many industrial and scientific processes including to power, or provide assistance to mechanical devices.
