Audiometer

An Audiometer is a type of medical equipment that is used to accurately measure hearing. It works by transmitting recorded sounds in the form of speech or pure tones via headphones or bone vibrators and recording the subject’s response. Common types of audiometers are medical grade audiometers which have embedded hardware. Another type of audiometer is a software audiometer which works with software linked to a PC. A third type is a Bekesy audiometer where a tone varies through a frequency range and the receiver has to press a button in response. Audiometers form part of the standard equipment at ear, nose, throat clinics (E, N, T) and in audiology centres.
