Sutures

A suture is a medical device which holds body tissues together following surgery or an injury. They are applied using a needle which has a thread attached, with surgical knots used to secure. Sutures are applied via a needle which comes in many forms, the most popular types are 1/4 circle 3/8 circle, 1/2 circle, 5/8 circle, compound curve, and half curved. Sutures themselves are available in two different types absorbable and non-absorbable with the primarily not needing to be medically removed. Suturing is performed by surgeons, general practitioners, physicians, eye doctors, dentists, podiatrists, nurses, clinical pharmacists and medics.
