Lift Off Tapes

Lift off tapes for typewriters were developed in the 1950s and are closely related to correctable ribbons. Lift off tapes later inspired the development of correction fluid and correction pen for correcting mistakes by a pen. As the name suggests, lift off tapes can lift off ink from paper which has been previously placed there by a correctable tape. As all characters on a paper are formed after placing the ink via a ribbon, lifting off the ink will make the space white again which can be used for typing off another set of characters/words. These tapes were developed as a sort of correction fluid for typewriters allowing typists to correct their mistakes or errors by removing the ink from paper and typing a new word or sentence in the freed space.
