Fibre Optic Sensors

Fibre optic sensors are devices that utilise fibre optics, in effect pipes of light, to measure temperature. Fibre optic sensors can operate in extreme temperatures and have clear advantages over many other types of sensors because they can cope with harsh or heavy industrial applications. Fibre optic sensors are unaffected by electromagnetic interference and radio frequency interference. They can be placed in very small and precise locations or those that are hard to access or view. As fibre optic sensors do not carry any electrical current, they are ideal for hazardous conditions. With some fibre optic sensors capable of operating at temperatures of over 300°C, they are ideal for applications such as furnaces, kilns and ovens.
